Went to my local Stan shop this morning. My TDCO was at +.80, got it set to -1.76. I figured that was a good compromise between -1.50 and -1.94 that seem to be the reported extremes for best fuel economy/best power.
Two points of interest. First, after re timing, I noticed my boost pressure did not come up like it had in the past. I had my TM setup to hit 11 peak, it then would fall fast upon shifting, and really would rarely come up above 6 again, unless I was really into it. After the timing reset, it would only hit 8 max. I went out to the boonies on the north end of town, and fiddled with the TM a bit. It now effortlessly hits 12, and will hold 10 easily as I accelerate. Settles to 3-4 at 60 mph. Dont want to go much more than that til I get the EGT gauge installed. Overall, I'm much(much, much) happier with it. And hoping my fuel economy may come up a bit from the consistent 13 I've been getting. But found it interesting that the timing could effect boost?
Second, I noticed my oil pressure gauge is reading lower thru all ranges of driving. Where it used to read slightly above 40 in normal driving, it's now reading around 30ish. Noticed the voltage gauge is also reading (very) slightly lower as well, but still above 14. Like JiFaire once said"I dont like co incidences" Could the timing affect this, or am I looking at a failing OPS? Alternator? or something else. Am I looking at another round of cleaning grounds? They already shine better than my paint.
