over the weekend. Trying to make it up the access road on my parents/family's property to cut up a tree. Got 15 ft from the crest when all four tires started spinning. Backed down and my back end shifted into an old logging trail. That was fun.... Called my dad, who was still at work, and told him and he recommended I wait till he got home and he'd take a different route up the hill with the 2040 JD w/ a front bucket and bushhog and pull me out. Well, I got impatient and thought I'd try to get it out myself. Pulled it out about 6-10 feet with a 1.5ton chain hoist, about 30 ft of chain, and then hammered down in 4low and 3rd & 4th gears. Never red-lined, but did get my coolant and exhaust temps high. The gauges never went past the highest I'd seen them, so that was good, but did smell my clutch getting hot, and burning rubber too. Oh, and did burn up a 1/4 tank of fuel (or more) in the 2-3 hrs it took me to get it out. (The 3rd to last pic shows the 1.5' deep hole that my driver's side tire was in. I'm pretty sure the bump stop was hitting the frame rail, and yes...I did ratchet it out of the hole. Nothing like hearing the pop of a chain as your ratcheting...)

no - i didn't try to use the 4 wheeler, but it was handy to get the chains and hoist up there

I'm kind of surprised there are no comments. Is it because I don't have video of me hammering down on the pedal? Is there anything obviously wrong that I did when using the hoist as a winch? Any advice on how to do it next time I do it...if I do it another time?

Assuming that you used a strap around the tree, it looks like you handled this fine.

It is a sinking feeling to get stuck out in the woods, but great when you can get it out without having to hire a wrecker. :)
