Hey all, had a persistent rattle in my burb for a few months now. I thought I found it the other day when I discovered the soot trap heat shield had a broken mount where it mounts to the tranny. I removed the heat shield as I have no cat anymore... still got the rattle. It happens under light accelleration. I have checked the heat shields on the turbo, injector lines, power steering lines etc. The rattle seems to come from under the vehicle...Almost ready to replace the crossover as it is the only remaining piece of the stock exhaust. I am wondering if the double layer crossover is rattling at a certain RPM. If I am cruising along approaching a red light at 30 mph or so then light turns green and I lightly apply the accelerator, I get the rattle. When I back into my driveway I get sometimes as well. It's driving me nuts:nonod:

I had a similar rattle. My fancy larger downpipe was hitting one of the AC tubes to the rear. Good luck, I went nuts finding it.

Your motor mount are probably getting loose and leting the engine move enough to let the exhaust or something else hit.

Grabin straws but what about the crossover pipe (if its the stock one)? Or the guts of the muffler could be coming lose? (had a couple ferds at work that did that)

wasn't sure if you changed it yet. I just did mine and what a diff in boost. 3" down and 4" open to rear wheels..... with stock crossover would have to get to 1500 rpm before boost started.........now idles with 1 psi very little lag after that. Mine is 2.5 crossover from ebay IIRC performance is who i bouhgt it from. I believe their store is "Our deals rock"

Rattle appears to be coming from inside the muffler. I will have to pull it off and have a look...Diamond eye 4" system.

An update:

Called Warpseed and talked to Dallas about my muffler. He said he would see what he could do. Muffler had been on truck over a year. Got a call last week from his shipping department and they are sending a new muffler free of charge! I also ordered the crossover thinking they would ship together. Muffler arrived in Tacoma 1 day before the crossover. No charge what so ever for muffler. Crossover was $80 or so shipped. Excellent customer service. Quite a few have asked me how I liked the Warpspeed product and I have always given them top marks. Now they are even better in my books. It is rare to find someone who stands behind their stuff these days...

Dallas is good people.
Removed the muffler and the inside lining has a crack in the weld...also installed the new crossover at same time...new muffler has glass inside. A very difficult rattle to find. Good now!
