Found one with 144 k. Runs fine with alittle stumble from idle to 3/4 throttle. Injectors seems to be putting out to much full at 3500 rpm...cold fuel burns your eyes....vehicle has exhaust leaks .....

Anyhow started removing stuff. Only problem is I broke the shields off the glow plugs on pass side.....

I got the engine yesterday. got it all washed up. Going to pull injectors and gp. Going to get the injectors tested.....Also I got a 30 day warranty....

Common for the shields to rust up. I have seen some cool stainless steel replacement one offs that some have made. You need to source new ones though. Wires won't live without them.

Fuel burning eyes, I have found that to be from antifreeze on stuff I have worked on in the past.

I was thinking on using a grid heater to replace the gp system....only thing is to much work right now. Never like the gp idea.

IMO a grid heater will not start a 6.5 as well/quick. Even when it is 110 out the GP's help start the engine and this is with the aftermarket faster starter. No I never liked the troublesome glow plugs after we blew some in half on the 1988 and they impacted in the pistons. The Duraterms and the 1993 and later controllers have done a lot to improve their reputation with me.

I know where there is a 6.5 in Pa. with a grid heater off of a cummins and it works very well. Can hardly tell the difference from gp to the grid heater.

Update....got the engine in and the truck is up n running. Everything is stock. Only took a week to here it run

Run your VIN at a stealership and get your build sheet or Check your glove box lid for RPO codes and look them up. Here are a few from the 81 pages of GM RPO Codes I cleaned up. I need a life.

Thanks. So far so good. Everything seems good... Looking to see where my mpg is now....also need to find out what gear ratio it has....:)

an easy way to find your gear ratio is to jack up the rear end, put a mark on the tire, rotate it one revolution and count the turns on the drive shaft, ie a little more than 4 revolutions of the driveshaft =4.10 gear
