I just got the cable and was able to connect to my 1995. The truck runs good, but I am leery to do anything that may leave me without it. I do not have the long wrench that if I read the postings correctly I will need if I must move the IP. Based on what I have read searching here it appears my timing is advanced, but again I'm skeeerd to try anything with the software like like the TDC time set or TDC learn if doing that may end up leaving me without my truck.

So is there a risk doing the TDC learn & offset? Should I just leave it alone...?

Here is my snapshot from GMTDScan.

Everything is fine, the measured timing of 6.3* and the desired of 6.7 is OK. They can be as high as 8.8*. The offset is within specs too, I would try an Offset learn to try for a -#. -1.5 to -1.94

You may have to rotate the pump to the drivers side.
You can buy a cheap 15mm wrench and bend it with a torch, the IP turning tool isn't needed, just put a couple bolts in the flange holes and use a large screwdriver to pry on the bolts to turn the IP.

It's just fine where it is, the difference might be a few hp. Like you said earlier, it's running good:thumbsup:

Hey the other kewl thing was being able to read my boost pressure finally. It spiked up almost to 12 pounds today when I nailed the go pedal on the expressway, kinda shocked me. Didn't think OEM chip would do that...maybe there's an aftermarket chip in it...still need to look see.

Spring is coming, thank goodness, got a bunch of little things I want to do, new oil cooler kit from Leroy, new sunpro gauges, front rotors need replacing...exhaust, never ends.

The scan tech is really nice, just wish we had a little screen to mount, like the big boys have...hint hint lol

They will spike with the stock tune, they just won't maintain the high boost.

I've been wondering if Scan Tech could be loaded on an I phone and the cable plugged into the usb.

I can't remember the user name but someone back at the place mounted a small computer in the dash. That would give you ScanTech at all times.

The software should work on a palm pilot type computer. That's what I was going to do originally before I got a deal on a used laptop.

Yea palm pilot just might work...

I have been reading as much info as I can find old post and surfing the net still I have questions...

When you select TDC time set and then select off is that the luck off the draw like playing a slot machine where it lands and does that number it ends up at have any effect on how far or the lets say does it alter the range that the TDC learn can be adjusted between or too? Or is it just an initialization function to prepare us to perform TDC learn?

Then after when we select TDC learn, how much variability should we expect to get? Mine was not giving many options and only a small range to pick from?

Also what does the memory dump function provide us with, when we use it & for what?

Well not getting a lot of variation is a good thing, means your timing is tightly controlled, like tight chain. Although you went from +.35 to -.18 that is a large range for not moving the pump. Unless that is just from installing the IP and not performing TDCO learn at that time in the past.

Factory spec is -.25 to -.75 so still not even in specifications yet, so I would move IP.

Your PCM and IP should be able to control timing close so desired and measured are about the same, within .1 or so. That chip should be BMRL.

Well just got done playing around again, -0.18 is as low as I can get it and that takes some doing to get it there, just try after try, cause I sure don't know what the hell I'm doing yet.

Sure seems to have more rattle like my old 7.3 now but that could just be my old feeble imagination. It sure rattles a fair amount going through the time set & learn procedure, is that normal?
