What is the variable resistance controller on the gmtd scan cable interface for. What is the difference in that cable interface and just a regular aldl to usb interface? Please don't just say, "it has a variable resistor in it!" Thanks guys.

It has no function on a 6.5TD. I built the cable to work on pretty much everything GM OBD1. The switch only comes into use when hooking up to a gasser... and what's avaliable depens on what you hook up to. For example hooking up to a car with MAF requires you to put the switch in 10K mode or the PCM won't spew out any data.
