GMT800 Upper Ball Joint R&R

I did not see any rivets like I was expecting to see. That's why I asked. I'll have to see about posting a picture later.

Mike, I just looked at my old UCA's in the garage and they are pressed in. I have also read its almost better to just by a new GM arm which comes with a new BJ as well as new bushings. I believe Henry sells them. Something to think about.

Makes sense Bill. I'll have to look into prices. I'm not gonna do it for a month or 2 and it seems to me that replacing both at the same time is the right way to go. Especially since I'm going to do new shocks at the same time.

One suggestion. If you go for new pressed in joints I would tack weld them in.

Pop the old one out with a press easy. New one was knurled around the edge and slightly oversize. Press it in and it also has a clip that goes on the bottom for extra security. I went 3 stage and tacked it in anyway. Lots simpler than on the older trucks grinding forever to get the rivets out.

This was a moog replacement. On the side where I snapped one if anyone remembers when I posted the pictures of carrying it to the shop behind my tractor. Been a few years and the moog one has been good and not come loose.

Yeah, go with the napa best and press em in. They work rather well and also have the security clip so they wont fall out. Gm Just wanted to make more money on the control arms and not have to design a suitable replacement joint for them.
