What do you guys think? Cost is within 10$ of each other so that is not a consideration. Does anybody like one more than the other and have a reason??

I will be watching this tread :bigear:. Because i want to change my glows before winter as well. I am already getting the infamous little white puff of smoke at start up :rolleyes5:. Any Ideas on avoiding the old one from braking off while removing them would help too. Iam sure that the ones on my truck are the original set.

I assume you're talking about the Delphi AC-60g plugs, Guy?

I haven't got a comparison for you, but I can tell you that both are self-regulating (won't swell, won't burnout), and that both of them work better with extended glow cycles.

I have the Duraterms... I like 'em, but with the regular glow cycle they don't get hot enough when it's really cold out. I heard the same about the 60g s. There is a mod for switching out the CTS sensor to increase glow times by fooling the ECM into thinking it's colder (there are 2 mods, actually - one, you put in a resistor and it thinks it's about 0*C, the other, you just bypass the CTS and it thinks it's -40*C ... your choice, depending on what your climate is like)

Tim, you're a southern boy, so that probably works for y'all...

Up here, getting it to start in the FIRST place is the challenge... those little after-glows are nice and all, but they don't tickle squat unless the cylinders are firing.

I like the Duraterms so far but haven't faced a winter with them yet, the westers chip seems to be giving a longer glow time as well. Leo

Why, it got so cold here last winter that Leo's home team froze their nuts off. Had to change their name to the Raiders.

HaHa good one but they had that name as long as I can remember, been a lot of cold winters in Alberta I guess. Leo

ROFL. They had that name when I was in High School. Used to go there, take our beatings, and go home. They were pretty good, back then.

Just funnin' ya, Leo.

i was told by the guys at Heath that the bosch duraterms put even the 60Gs to shame. i'm due for winter soon as its already getting quite cold at night here(not already :willynilly:). so far the duraterms have made "cold" starting the truck very easy. i'm not sure what glows came out of the truck(bought the truck with them). they did say ac delco on them so i'm guessing they were either 11Gs or 60Gs. i'm planning on doing a manual glow plug override as soon as i can afford to breathe again.

what do define as cold? I don't count it cold until your atleast -5C or 23F. I had the durathems till the controller went funny and cooked them! now I gotta fix that mess too. a manual sounds alot easier to deal with

Cold? Last winter hit -45C with a wind chill of -50 or more for 2 weeks. Leo

Gets cold here in Michigan and I installed a manual glow plug button. I use it to extend the initial glow cycle and give it a few bumps when she starts to stumble after the initial start. And yes we get temps here that can stay below 10 degrees Fahrenheit -12 Celsius. We get some nights that get down to -20 Fahrenheit , -28 Celsius but I can't remember a night or day at -45 C which is -49 Fahrenheit. It gets real cold in Alberta.

I put in 60 g's when I did head gaskets. I installed a manual over ride with the starter solenoid set-up. It was 30*F. the other morning and I just held the button in for about three seconds after the normal burn and it started perfect.

Thanks for everyone's input. Jfaire, I thought the AC 60g and Delphi were 2 different plugs? iirc the Delphis are identified as DS094a rather than AC 60g but they could be the same thing with different label? Anybody know?

Chevy / GMC Glowplugs

6.2L - 6.5L Bosch Glow Plugs 80034
6.2L - 6.5L CAV Glow Plugs DS094A
6.2L - 6.5L AC Glow Plugs 60G
6.2L - 6.5L WAP Glow Plugs 50

My X-list shows them as all being comparable. The CAV ones are LucasCAV, = Delphi.
The Delphi book shows them compatible to AC11g - but it's an older book.

As much As i don't like the vendor, the SSDiesel GPs i bought 2 years ago are just dying now ( i think I have 6 or 7 good) and they work AWESOME, very fast to heat up and stay hot a LONG time after ( i did the test with jumper cables) I am really impressed with them, but the shipping price sucks... i'll be getting duraterms to replace them.
