I am looking for a fuel sending unit for my 1994 6.5 diesel. Is there a huge difference between A/C Delco, Spectrum, and Doorman? There is quite a price difference between the A/C Delco and others, and I don't mind paying the difference if it is going to be more dependable and last longer. I am just unfamiliar with the different brands and models, and don't want to pay more for simply a brand name if another will do a great job as well. Any suggestions on sending units that have worked well on 6.5 trucks are greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Exacto

AC Delco does ok, spectrum is half crap, and doorman is a full pile of

The other option is get a meterum rod from Leroy intead, it will let your gauge read accurate, it will last a long time and can handle the bio fuel / methonal that is mixed into your diesel nowdays.

A friend with a 93 gasser just did his in tank pump& sending unit assembly. It is off by 1/4 tank. This weekend he gets to drop the tank again...

Thanks Will L, I did not see the Meterum Rods on his website. I guess I must have missed them. I will go back and look for it.

The way I understand it is Metrum is NOT an FSU.
It replaces part of the FSU which measure the level of fuel.

So, it depends on why you are trying to replace the FSU?

At any rate, none of them have the correct diesel tank sock.
So you need to buy them separately.

I spent the extra money for an Ac Delco sending unit for the Tahoe. Got it, it was made in China and didn't work. I really really really should have plugged it in and tested it before I installed it. - testing before installing is good no matter what brand you buy.

I decided if I am going to buy a made in china POS. I am going to buy a cheap made in china POS

Thanks jrsavoie and jmjnet for your input. I don't want to spend extra money on an A/C Delco if it is not going to perform MUCH better than the aftermarket brands.

You have to ask Leroy about his metrum rod setup. It only fixes the sending unit portion though, so if you have other issues it won't take care of those. The metrum rod is a reed switch assembly mounted inside a stainless tube so no fuel contacts any of the sender, only a rubber float with a magnet inside of it contacts anything, so it's basically a bullet proof design.

Very soon I'll be offering it as a complete sending unit. It will also have a "high performance" 1/2" pick up tube.
I can sell just the electrical part too.
