Fuel return lines done right

I've had an issue with popping off fuel return lines. I've tried two recommend sources for the braided type that does not need clamps, neither stayed on. I've also found the braided cover loosens at the ends.
What I did was push the cover back enough and put a new clamp on each end. Then I used shrink tube that has heat activated glue in it on each end behind the clamps. Using a lighter to shrink the tubing also fizzles the loose wrap off. It works and looks good. I buy the tubing on line from tem-co.

Pressure in the tank, kinking the return line, clogged lines, or just poor quality? Yes, use the clamps. I have had the braided push on lines fail with heat and biodiesel use.

I have nothing against the clamps except they are annoying. It you need them, use them.

The braided line I normally use is bought directly from a Mercedes dealership- no other place I found it. I have bought the Bosch braided online and it was different. Currently running a test on some tygon clear, but not so impressed. It is not leaking or anything, but would not be reuseable, so a field repair would be a problem.

On my hotroded engines, I used to use a double wrap of aircraft safety wire to keep them on. Had to cut off with flush cutting sidecutters, but they never blew off.

I used needle nose vise grips to hold the clamps and regular needle nose to push the hoses on. With the shrink tube and cloth wrap, the hose shouldn't get hurt.

I'm hoping it's just the hoses. All the lines from the tanks forward are new. New filters and pumps. Both tanks are vented to air.

Elaborate please? Vented to air as in no fuel cap?

Are both pickup and return hoses submerged to the bottom of the fuel tank?
