Here lately I have noticed that my BURB was getting a little lazy off idle. I didn't change the fuel filter 500 miles back when I did the oil change because it only had 3500 miles on the filter and I figured it was still good. I buy all of my diesel through the local wal-mart that deals with pretty high volume for this area, so I figured the fuel would be pretty fresh. WRONG!! I picked up some spare fuel filters yesterday and changed it out today just to check it, and I was glad I changed. For only having 4K miles on it, it was pretty bad inside. Also my nice expensive RACOR was deffective inside as it had a pinched O-ring that was allowing fuel to go around the large outer element unfiltered. The inner element was plugged up to the point that I couldn't hardly blow air back through it. Just let this be a warning, if there is any question just change the fuel filter. Also you'll see in the pic there was quite a bit of water in the bottom of the filter, yet I never got a WIF light on.

It's amazing how bad they get in so little miles.

My last one was toast pretty fast, fuel came from Wal-Mart as well.

Thanks for the heads up on the Walmart fuel. I try to only run BP or Mobil so far I have had good luck.

I've run the WM (Murphy) fuel for years with zero problems. Only time I had trouble was from the high volume Pilot last year when it was -30 2 nights in a row. I also have always run Parker/Racor filters. The WIF sensor is notorious for not working. Fermin, it could be you are getting alot of condensation with the effed up weather you guys have been having.

Who knows, I know I treat the fuel with power service grey every tank and every other tank I treat with 2 stroke(got a gallon of it I need to get rid of). I know that all of my fuel has come from this same pump at the local wally world, and they do sell quite a bit of diesel. I'm glad now that I spent the extra money and went with the RACOR dual element filter as it looks like most of this stuff could have gotten through the cheapo 10 micron filters. I couldn't believe though how much of a difference it made in the throttle response.

See, I've never noticed any difference at all after changing the filters out. I dont get it. Then again, I've never gone longer than 10k miles either. I was religious about changing out the filters when I was living up in NY but down here, I'm not so concerned and I dont run additives anymore either.

Water in the bottom of the filter is flat out disgusting. That would make me mad. I usually fill up at 7/11 as its still hovering around $2.70 and the cheapest around by at least 10 cents. I have run ATF a few times but haven't in a while.

And I can't remember when I changed my filter last. Last time I changed it I kinda wondered why I bothered. Probably had 50k+ on it. As far as I know we've only got 2 refineries here so not much choice on who to buy from

For what its worth, at work we have a couple 6.2 diesels that have gone 150k on a fuel filter.

Last time my fuel filter was changed was about 12,500 miles ago. Knock on wood the truck still runs just fine and I need to get it changed when it warms up. I have also bought diesel at Wal-Mart (Just yesterday for $2.74/GAL.) and have not noticed any problems yet. I do run Stanadyne pretty regular so I don't know if that helps or not.

I also noticed for the first time ever the change oil light has come on (about 5100 miles on the oil). I've got to atleast change the oil next week if it makes it up above freezing. I have to go get the camper at deer camp and that would be about 500 extra miles on it , but I don't guess a few more miles would hurt if I don't get the oil changed?

12,000 mile filter change today. Plenty dirty but no sign of water ever.

I use Nicktane and change filters at about 20k miles, OEM filter at about 40k miles. I cut them open and the OEM is still pretty nice inside, the Cat filter is pretty much toast.
