Should I get new tires before, after, or doesn't matter? Ive always just done it myself by eye and never takin it anywhere before.. I'm getting tired on buying tires though..
Thanks for Reading!

I have always been taught to get the alignment with the old tires so the mechanic can see how there wearing when the alignment is done.

Ok little update here. If had an alignment with new tires a couple months ago. MY tires are still wearing out the same. The out side of the tires are bald. I mean down to metal threads after 4-6k. What is causing this? It goes straight down the road..

I am guessing they checked the ball joints when they completed the alignment?!?!?! I would double check them in the UNLOADED position to see if they are good.

I just replaced them all and every other front end part, just checked to be sure. Everything is still tight.

Both sides look like this... wares on the right

In case I worded that bad Dan, that was the drivers side, ware on out side. this is passenger side, wear again on the outer. goes straight down the road..

I'm going to assume that you had it aligned after you rebuilt the front end.

I'd take the truck to a different alignment shop next time.

I know this is a long shot, and I guess I am being lazy and a tight ass not wanting to get another alignment with the same results, but if I measure the tie rods on my 89 gasser and make sure they are the same measurements on my dually, do you think that would help?

Easy homesteader toe in just measure the distance between the tires (usually I hook the tape on the outside of the tread). Measure the front side of the tires and then the back. Most rigs like about 1/8 less on the front ( ie toe in)

It's either positive camber or tow in problem, assuming all the parts are good in the front end.

Justin, tires are too damn expensive to let this kind of thing go. I'd see if I could find a tire shop that is also good at alignment and spend some time with them. Watch the guy do it and ask questions. If the store owner won't let you do that, find another store. Maybe I'm just spoiled or fortunate but my tire dealer never even questioned my being in the shop whenever I'm getting tires, balance and alignment. Been that way for 25+ years.

First, I would get the tires first, then the alignment. Tires are not created equally and old tires vs new tires may throw off the readings. Now I don't much of anything about alignements, but I want my new 200 bucks per tires to have the best alignment possible!

Justin, I am having the same problem you are with the front tires wearing out. The first time was at 27000 miles my front tires were shot! I was told I hit something and knocked my alignment out... I knew that I hadn't but what could I say? I bought new front tires and got the front end aligned. Then I noticed the wear again. This time I took it to the dealer and they told me my tie rods were worn out, replaced under warranty. It is still wearing out my tires and the dealer can't find anything wrong. I have been thinking of getting after-market tie rod ends. So if you figure something please share it, because I have the feeling the other tie rods aren't gonna do the trick...thoughts?
