Hello,
First I want to thank you for question about the 1995 Chevrolet Tahoe. The car is in perfect condition, no damage, perfect shape and the mileage is 100,180. It has all the papers and document and I am also the owner.
The price is USD $2,500 including shipping to your address (only in USA).Currently I am located in Miami,FL, because I just finished the divorce with my husband and i have moved here to my parents for a while. The transaction will be made only through ebay vehicle purchase protection program also the payment will be made through eBay and only after you will receive the car, I will receive the payment.
PS: If you are interested in buying it please provide me your FULL NAME and FULL ADDRESS & PHONE NUMBER so I can initiate the deal through eBay
I will wait your answer (if you are interested to buy) very soon and i will also explain you all terms for this transaction.
Thank you,
Maria Portela

I saw that on the craigslist here in Sacramento, CA I also noticed it didn't have the holes in the bumpers. and it said it had the barn doors, and in the picture it had the tailgate. I knew it was too cheap to be true.

There are a lot of scam at CL. I learned how to distinguish them last year. I call it phantom cars.

Usually, they don't provide phone no. and email with gmail, yahoo, weird domain. The email address have common name like johnson or smith or sgt. xxx, etc. It is usually in an HTML pics but not all the time.

I will ask to see and drive it first. If I cannot do it, no deal. Never give any personal detail about yourself other than name probably.

Supriesed it didn't say"recently moved to UK. That's the line they've used on the minneapolis craigslist.

So how does the scam work??.......and why would you send any stranger $2500 before you had some hard proof (ie. The Vehicle and Original Title) before releasing any money? are people that gullible (sp) and/or stupid?

YUP Folks get a false sense of security when the scammer uses the words that reference ebay and then they think there is something there that will protect their deposit...

WRONG!

I would never buy any vehicle sight unseen, nope ain't gonna happen, not here.

The other RED FLAG IMO is a request for any of yr personal information, never provide that! Why would a supposed seller need it? Just more ways for these pricks to scam something from you :nonod:

WC Fields said it best. There is a sucker born every minute. They are almost as dishonest as Lee's Auto Ranch...:mad2:

I put an ad on CL this morning, in the autos for sale by owner section. I'm not selling anything, I was trying to get the attention of a guy who has a racecar for sale, so I wrote "re: the guy with the racecar, can't reach you be email please call me" something to that effect. I have so far gotten ten responses from people who definitely want to buy my car, 100%! And there is no car even referenced in the ad, just a request to email me. So they arent even reading the ads, just have a program to blindly answer every ad that shows up. I can usually tell the phatom car ads, they are always too good to be true, at least if you have an awareness of market value of the vehicle in question. Then I'll look at the pictures, and I can tell it's not around here even if it claims to be. I see a lot of cars parked on concrete driveways without a tree in sight, looks like Vegas or someplace. Definitely not here. They just steal the pictures from other ads.

Crankme69,

I believe that you have another vehicle problem I share. There, I'm just Hunter.

Ha! Small world.

Guess what I pissed away on my front end alone?

I should point out it's wildly improved the handling/braking plus - unlike the rest of the free spirit, black t-shirt/leathered uniform bunch - I know of no other person trying to customize a HD so no one can tell.

Your secret is safe with me.

When I bump into one of these jackholes, I like to lead them along as long as I can. I don't go looking for them, mind you, but when I have an ad out or accidentally get suckered by one of the better ads. I ask questions that any real seller can answer but these shmucks can't. They give answers for 100 other questions that I didn't even ask. I tell them that I live an hour or so away and I'll just come pick it up in person and pay CASH. I just try to back them into a corner to see what they say. Eventually they stop emailing me! Hopefully I'm wasting enough of their time that its keeps them from screwing just one person. Either way, I'm entertained.

Craigslist is full of so many scams, but it seems to me that they have become fewer. I have seen less of them, and I dont get as much junk email when i post an add either.

But heres a story you guys will appreciate: I was trying to sell a truck at work, 93' Hino FA cabover, so I listed it on craigslist. Well a few days later I had a forein gentleman call from west virginia (mind you i live and work in CT) who sounded very interested. I assumed nothing would come of it, but the guy kept calling and finnaly agreed to a bit lower than the asking price. Well at this point and time he started asking for bank information to transfer me the money :mad2:

I got quite pissed off and told him the only way in hell that truck leaves is if I have cash in hand. I really wanted to tell him off but I refrained. Well long story short, the guy calls next day and drives from WV to CT just to pay me in cash. Hardly even looks at the truck, just wanted to make sure it ran and the dump body worked. A flatbed came a week later and it was gone. They were stuffing it into a shipping container and shipping it to dubai!

I was for sure that I had a scam when the bank info came up. But I guess you never can tell.

That's funny, HighSerria. Similar thing happened when I sold my Nova. Got an email that said they would pay my asking price and wanted to wire me the money. I played along like I always do, just for fun. I asked where he was, and he said in Egypt in the military. I thought, 'yeah right'. But long story short, the guy's sister came with cash money and a trailer and took the Nova home for him! Kind of caught me by suprise, I didn't even have the title yet! According to what he told me, he should be back in the States by now. Hope he likes the car.
