So, a friend calls me up and says his '99 6.5 won't stay running. I go over and sure enough, it fires and dies right away. We pop the hood and I start to look around. I grab the fuel shutoff solinoid to feel if it is moving with the key. It is, but it feels like it's very loose. We take off the upper intake and I look down and what do I see? The IP is not bolted to the engine!!! I grab hold of it and the engine fires right up. He's going to get some parts today and we'll bolt it back down.

Just thought I'd share...LOL

ROFL! Did this happen all by itself, or did some absent-minded-tech play with it?

Great catch - I really doubt checking to see if the IP is bolted down is on any of our checklists!!!!

The truck is new to him so we don't know if it was someone's fault or if the bolts rattled out on their own... LOL

This sounds like something that would happen to me. Im going to go check mine..

Since the torque-thrust is in the negative direction, or retarded, would behoove you to loosen the nuts, align the ESO vertical, cinch'er down, do KOKO to reset TDCO - scribe a line across IP and timing cover - scribe a 'nuther line on the timing cover 2mm in the direction away from the turbo - loosen the IP, rotate it so the IP mark lines up with the second timing cover line, cinch'er down, do a 'nuther KOKO to get +5* advance, run it from there - try it...he'll like it................
