Here is the little road trip, The Family is going on tomorrow. Over to Lake Huron for a day of fun and sun.

I'm interested to see what kinda mileage I can get. As you see the trip is on all state highways, posted 55. My OD kicks in at like 51-52 or so, and runs around 1400 rpms at that speed, so 57 or so is gonna see around 17-1800rpms. I'd love to see the 20Mpg this beast is claimed to of gotten, and done so around 60MPH.
So this eve, were gonna wash it up, clean the wheels and air up the tires, load up the int. W/ Pick a nic baskets, towels, the Bulldog, wife, 2 kids, and toys and what not ( with air floaties pre aired of coarse ) and head to the beach!

It's been running spot on ,,, We have had some HOT days, here lately, and with the new duramax fan + the mod'd fan clutch the AC remain's to put out cold air, While stopped at traffic lights, and in drive thrus. That was not the case with the old 6 blade and stock clutch.

We use a site for fuel mileage stat's called Fuelly http://www.fuelly.com/driver/pruittx3/k1500-suburban Check it out!

I'll post back MPG findings,, for my friends,,, Hope everyone has a safe and happy 4th! To bad the Kanucks have to work ;( lol

Is yours a 4x4? The best mileage I´ve seen has been 17/18. Thats 2000 rpm about 63 mph.

Good luck and have fun on your trip.

Best you'll see in a Burb is 17/18. Done that in my son's '95 and got 17. My '99 has the ATT and is lucky to see 16.

I used to get 18 running 68 MPH which was 2,000 RPM's with my 245/75/16 tires and 4.10 gears. With 265/75/16 tires doing the same speed I got 15. The updated GM PROM chip I put in though is what got me up to 18 at 68, before it with the origanal chip I only got 16. It dropped my boost down from 2-2.5 to 1.5, and that really helped out the milage(I'm sure it had some timing changes in it too as it also smoothed out some drone I had with the origanal PROM). Now with 3.42 gears and the DMAX I can see 21-22 running 70-75.

I'm Back!!

Ok,,so I did the fuel up, and refuel at the same pump,, stopped at first click both times :hihi: 336.9 round trip,,17.251 gallons @ $3.55 > 19.5 MPG!!! <
:partay:

Set up is 95 K1500, stock air box, Turbo Master showing 12psi peak on the GMTD basic scan, with Heath GLE tune,, 3:42 gears, 4x4, Every option,, 265/75/16 with 55psi cold. Air Cond on both front and back I'd say 2/3 of the trip. 1750 Rpms was 60ish and that's what I tried to stay at. State roads,, have the few small towns, to go thru, but there was No orange cones,, and only 1 small detour and great roads. I wonder if I was a tad faster,, say 65-ish , with the R's in the 1900 2000 range,, if I'd see maybe 20 or 21. I do think it's do able.

Over 7hr's in the burb driving today, the kids 4 and 7,, played the letter game,, the spot a cop game,, counted horses,, and counted the motor cycles. <-- this game, is smart biker, dumb biker if they have helmet's or not. smart won 28 to 24!

Here is a link to Flicker with a few pics and Video driving down the road today,, at the end of the trip on the way to refuel. and a pic of a young bald eagle,, a mile from my house. What a way to top off a great day http://www.flickr.com/photos/18296779@N08/7484230682/in/photostream

Yeah, you might even get better mileage with 245/75/16 tires, since you have the high 3.42 gearing. It will also give you more grunt and more efficient in stop and go, a little more aerodynamic and less rolling resistance on the highway. The K1500 definately sits a higher than my C1500 pickup which does get 20-22 mpg on the interstate.

Since you measured the route online, how did it compare to your odometer?

Hard to pinpoint, as I only new About where we were going. I didn't know exactly where the place was,,, my first time going there and we followed dad the last 20 miles to get there.

Now I got the map pinpointed to the place,, google says 167 miles So double that and add 10 miles for my trips to get fuel, not on the map, and come up with 344 miles Back home in my driveway the trip says 341.9

So I'd say pretty darn close. Check out the pic link,,,, and the Fuelly links above!

NICE! That is very respectable mpg for the Burb.

My Father owner a 1973 full size Chevy wagon with all the bells & whistles with a small block 400, that used to avg right at 10mpg...AC on or off empty or hauling the trailer never made much of a difference and it prolly had all of 165 hp.

Nice job.

FWIW with mine 4x4 with 3.73 I can get over 20 on road trips (no a/c though) if I can keep it under 65ish. Once speed picks up the wind resistance is too much.

I have 235/85 tires which help.

AFE 2.jpgAFE.jpg

well I switching out the air cleaners today between burb and truck. The Burb had an AFE filter in the 95 box. here is a shot of the air filter I did my trip with. Maybe I could of gotten 20 with a clean one in there. Well now the Burb is wearing the 99 K-47 box.

The tires on the Burb, only have 10,000 miles on them,, funny thing is, their over 5 years old. when it's time to get new ones,, I'll go smaller.

Maybe I'm doing something wrong then. I've had a 96 k1500 Sub for about a year. It has 280,000 miles. When I got it I installed new injectors and a DE 4" exhaust. No other mods. My average economy is 19 mpg. My most common fill up is around 20 mpg. I often get 21 or almost 22. I use power services additive at every fill up. I have 4x4 and 3.42 gears. On the interstate I drive 70+ mph. My average driving is a mix of 10% stop and go, 60% secondary 45-55mph roads, and 30% interstate.

I meticulously track my mileage with fuel log on my phone and fill up to the same level every time. YMMV

Mine is about the same as 96Sub.

Ummmm . . . Unless the Burb is garage kept nearly all the time, am hoping that the thought process is to make it within the next year ;) A buddy of mine decided to go with the 'good tread depth' theory, elected to budget off of tread depth versus age, and did not get a good results with driving on 6 year old tires with low mileage. Lets just say that I promised not to tell his wife about the comment to buy new ones on his schedule, not the tire's.

Yes the Burban was garaged Everyday, for the 10 years the second owner had it. The is No weathering on the tires at all. When I pulled up to buy it,, it was in garage, cleaned waxed, and tires dressed. The second owner only put 20,000 miles in the 10 years he owned it.

Also,, we went up nort to da cabin, over the Labor day weekend. This time I had a different chip, and the new K-47 air cleaner with new paper element. although we did about 1.5 hr's on the expressway this trip @ 70-75mph,, I still tracked a respectable 17.5mpg,,, and we had 2 suitcase on the roof. It is called a luggage rack after all. went canoeing on the Au Sable river. Had a blast.

Click on the Fuelly link below, to track my mileage.
