Just did a few filter changes and as always, I cut my filters open to check out what is going on inside them. Once again, the filter magnets did their job and attracted a lot of small particles. They are definitely worth the money. The larger can is the oil filter, and the smaller can is the Allison spin on filter. The first photo is the Allison.

Nice to see Baldwin filters :D Those magnets look like they are doing their job, I should invest in a set (ok, 3 sets)

I have used both the Baldwin and AC Delco filters. I like Baldwin filters. They have a nice think can, are put together well, and perform well. I am sold on the filter magnets. They really work well.

I have baldwin's on my 02, but have been running donaldson on my 88 and 99 (they take the same filter).

Where did you pick your magnets up at?

I got mine from Kennedy Diesel and have been using them for years (one on the pre-OEM fuel filter, and one on the Oil filter). They aren't real cheap, but worth it as you can see.

kennedy diesel Scroll down to Truck Accessories, then FilterMag.

I just changed my oil yesterday and used a Baldwin oil filter for the first time. Glad to see the Baldwins are well made like the AC Delcos.

that is microscopic! wonder what micron that is. need to get ME a set of those.

Wow! They look like they are definitely worth the investment! I will be looking into getting one for the truck for sure.

Dang, even with the OE magnet on the Allison they still attract a ton of particles.

I run Amsoil oil filters on the engine, and Genuine Allison on the trans. Better than the MicroGuard's it had been getting, unbeknownst to any of us...

I actually have 3 filter magnets. 1 for the oil filter, 1 for the Allison, and 1 for my fuel filter. They do not pick up as much particles in the fuel. I will be changing the fuel filter soon, so I will try and take a photo.

Oops! Sorry Pepp, my apologies.

I have cut open the Donaldson fuel filters and there is a very tiny hint of a darker substance around the area of where the magnet was. nothing like a oil filter; just like the shiny tiny is a hue darker thats all. as for the Ally magnet; the rag is always dark black when I wipe the mag clean when changing out, might have to get one for the Ally now.

I had a lot of dark particles on and around the round Allison magnet inside the filter as well. I am very surprised to see how much both of the magnets pick up from the transmission. It makes you wonder.

I never had much use for filter magnets...

... until I saw the photos posted in this thread...

I use a magnet attached/press-fit into the oil drain plug and have had "good" results, but filter magnets, too, from now on.

Iron particles on the filter magnets

I wonder what all the iron particles are on the OEM Round Magnet inside the filter, and on the inside of the filter from the filter magnet? Is it the gears inside my Allison breaking down? I guess it is better than having it go through the Allison.

talking to a tech up at Detroit Diesel in middletown, ct he was saying that the clutch material is so hard that it is actually shaving the steels and that "normal" wear and residue inside a Ally pan can make a tech that has never opened one think that a perfectly good unit is toast. the clutches also have a very aggressive material to hold up to the torque of the diesels under heavy load.
