Ever try to bleed the fuel filter without fuel spilling all over?
Hooking a hose up to the barb on top of the screw and opening the screw 1/2 a turn should make for a spill proof bleed, right?
there's a o ring underneath the the cap ,supposed to prevent that spill from happening.
Yea right! :,pisses me off every time i change a filter:mad2:
I used 2 diff brands, both have that problem. Cheap crap!

I have a switch to run my lift pump mounted on the firewall. Open the valve on the top of the filter, bump the switch until a little fuel comes out. If I hold the switch too long and more than a teaspoon of fuel comes out I just squirt some degreaser on it and spray it off with the garden hose - no biggie.

I also use the switch to drain the water off the bottom through the T valve by the thermostat.

Don't know what brand filters you use but I run wix (Napa) in all my diesels (truck and tractors). - never had a problem with them in regards to being poorly made.

You don't need to unsrew that bad boy much, just a little crack is all. When all air is out, a little dribble of fuel your done. If it makes you feel better to watch how powerful your LP is, i understand. Do that via t-valve into a container :)

I'm not sure that is made for a hose on top. I just think its a tall high-spot so it makes sure it gets just about all the air.

Our trucks are supposed to smell like diesel pigs, I like it! I also like having diesel all over my hands and then when I get in the whole truck smells like raw diesel! Wooohooo! On a serious note, you own diesel, thats par for the course.

Little trick when leaving the strip clubs so you don't go home stinkin' like perfume and worse :)

Crack the fuel filter, get a little diesel on ur hands, a little on the pants, and in the house like nothing happened!

Folks, i aint a greenhorn as far as diesels go of any make.I was prob fixing and maintaining them when most of you where still sucking tit. a bypass switch for the LP and a fuel gauge was one of the first things i installed on my trucks. The point is that bled air and fuel is suppose to come out of that little nub on top and not piss all over the fiter and down the valley.

one other nice thing of a fuel gauge beside pressure monitoring, it'll tell you when the filter is getting dirty, when the hand starts fluctuating wildly in a blur, its time to change the filter. I got a mechanical gauge T-in between filter and IP.

:iagree: ROFL Matt. Gotta keep that in mind next time I go somewhere and come home. Smell of diesel and it solves EVERYTHING

Thats why I like the filter on tractors, its pretty much the same thing but not upside down.

But the air rises, and its the only way to get it out would be from top?

Honestly, I do not think you need to unscrew it so much that it makes a mess. A little crack, press your prime button and seal it up once the air stops burping and a solid dribble of fuel comes out. Should be able to catch it with rags.

Bison: I wasn't saying you don't know diesels. And BTW, i'm still sucking tit. Just not the same one(s) as when you started dieseling!!!

:yumyum:
