FFM question

I have 2 fuel filter managers. One is new and the other is a cleaned used one. The used on has a spring coil inside the tube where the heater element goes, the new one does not.

In scanning through the feed the beast sticky, I saw some pictures with and some without.

Is that spring coil important?

When I changed out the fuel heater that was leaking, the new one came with a spring. My 97 did not have this spring, so I pitched it. I have been wondering about that spring , so watching thread. Sorry I'm no help.

I think GM pitched the spring in about '96. When I did the FTB mod, I removed the spring as suggested by "Buddy".

I Think I'll remove it also.
I was wondering the purpose of it. Was to assist in the heating?
Maybe I'll hang onto it for awhile, just in case. I'll put it somewhere in my garage, so that when I want it, I'll never find it. (like so many other things I've stored away) :dunno:

Funny, Jody, funny! Sure it isn't a case of Oldheimer's Disease for the reason you can't find things you squirrelled away in the garage/shed/basement years ago?
