As far as I know, to remove the fan clutch, you get a 2" wench, hammer and whack the wrench to the passenger side. Mine will not release. Am I correct in the removal procedure? Is there a holding tool or procedure? Or, are the threads reversed? This is the first time to remove this in this truck. It seems elementary, but it is not coming loose, and I would rather ask than to destroy something (which, unfortunately, I seem to be good at doing).

Some pb blaster doesnt hurt, but you have the idea. It is not a revese thread. When you have whack it- hit it fairly hard- not a tap.

Some people do an air hammer with chisel tip, but it chews up the nut, and after having been sliced really bad on one someone did, i really dont like that aproach.

I use an air hammer with a chisel tip(I'm that guy). I've only once used a wrench, and that was because I was stuck in BFE Alabama in a parking lot next to an O reillys swapping mine out on a trip. Otherwise I will never use anything other than an air hammer. It chews them up some, but if your careful it's not bad. And it's not like it's something you take on and off alot anyways.

mine comes off with a smack of the hand on the 24 inch crecent. Anti-Seize is awesome. 
I do make sure to tighten it some though, even though its self tightening, if I just spun it on loose it might dislodge and spin apart when shutting off the engine.

But, it dose not fit the pulley. However, it makes an excellent fan clutch wrench. I used this along with a holding tool that I fabricated (basically, just a beefed up spanner wrench made out of 1/4" steel). Fan clutch came right off. Installed the Hayden 2886 fan clutch along with the Duramax fan blade, and trimmed the shroud where it was needed. What kind of performance should I expect to see from this set up?
When they are stubborn I use an air chisel too.

I use a large pair of vice grips clamped on the small flange on the pulley and then I grab onto the hex of the fan clutch with channel locks. Glad you got yours off.
