Fack! did I break something or bad IP, PMD, PCM, WTF..... please help

Problem: Explain your problem in concise language (ie: Cranks but won’t fire). __truck starts and runs but gas pedal does nothing at all, truck just idles high then low eventually almost evens out but the pedal does nothing, and smokes like a freight train_____

- What were you doing when it happened? ___ my burb had dead battery so while removing the brand new battery to put in my other truck while this one was running then the service throttle light came on the idleing when crazy up and down so i shut it off. been doing that ever since i cleared the codes from orileys there was a code for like pump timing and some others but i forgot to write down before i erased codes___________
- How was the truck running fine before this problem appeared? __i guess once and a while it would jolt on highway like the pedal was getting let off then jump back up ___________

_____SMOKES LIKE TRAIN WHEN JUMPING UP AND DOWN RPMS I BOUGHT ANOTHER THROTTLE PEDAL AND TRIED PLUG AND PLAY IT DID NO DIFFERENT. ____________________________

Good luck with that they are mostly gasser folks there.

From your description I would expect broken fuel solenoid armature in IP, with one of the previous symptoms before this with fishbite throttle on highway.

You said remote mounted FSD on computer heat sink, how big a sink, did you used thermal paste, where is the remote location, the FSD you moved was it ever operated on a IP.

IP is my suspicion, but replacing the FSD with a new one would be 1st step, if you have to go the IP route a new or reman IP without a FSD/PMD on it will be less expensive, you'll have a new never been under hood driver for primary and if it isn't found to be bad the one you are using now can be your glovebox insurance policy driver.

Oh maybe you problem is you are trying to use the GAS pedal, vs accelerator we use in Diesels :) yeah I know everbody is a comedian right ?

Thanks for the welcome. Yeah I joined here when I got the truck then forgot about this site so I had to bookmaker now. Been a long member at fsc. And as for GAS pedal yeah I even say that in my semi, bad habbits hard to break lol. Ok what is fsd and pmg? I read lots of post yesterday and seen those but dont remember what those are. And can I rebuild the ip? I found a rebuild kit for 60. Also another thing it just started doing a few weeks now is if I would start the truck up some times it would just die after like 5 to ten seconds and do this a few times before it would stay running. I thought it was a dirty fuel filter so I changed it but dont know if these problems went toghter. Thanks fire help
 
opps i reread that so fsd and pmg is the same thing ok, the heat sink i used was as big as the pmd and as thick and it has a nice thin layer of thermo paste and i moved it into the hole in the fender where the stock air box would sit, i figured all the air getting sucked into the cold air would keep it cool and it was the stock pmd/fsd. is there a good way to test the pmd? i seen an article on here about using a dmm whould that show what? also my truck has always been a loud ip sounds like a rod knock i would hate when people would say "hey your truck rod knocking" and i say "shut up stupid!" lol
 
ok so i read the codes to day and b4 i started it i got a p1218 injection pump calibration circut then started it and got p1641 p0219 p1216. does that mean PMD/FSD? i bought a tested used one on ebay with a warranty today so even if not i got an extra,
 
Would have replied sooner but I'm on a big repair project for work and running the nightshift repair team to boot I'm going to be sporadic participant next 5 months, guys & gals here can/will help out

Well......I'd say get a replacement FSD (fuel solenoid driver) what it's function is when it gets relocated from the side of the IP where factory/stanadyne call it a PMD (pump mounted driver) Leroy (Burning Oil on site here) sells least expensive option and stands behind it, ebay folks not so well.

Even if it is not this (I suspect the IP) it would not hurt to have a new one remote mounted in any case, save one you have now for a spare.

No such thing as tested but good if it's ever been operated under the hood it is suspect, only good for a get home spare IMO, even with warranty, who was the vendor Edam ???

Check out Edam around the 6.5 community mixed feelings with them within the community as a whole.
 
so today i tested my grounds all ohm'ed out 3 or less mostly 0's, cool at 5pm my new/used pmd/fsd arrived threw it in the truck started and ran perfect! thanks for the help
 
Put PMD outside the hood. All these argument on the fender near the air filter, etc. has been argued before.
Bottom line is that anywhere inside the hood is still hot.
Yes, you are correct that you get air but what about when engine is off after running.
The temp goes up when engine is shut off and heat does not recognize whether it is the IP or the air filter.

Hey neighbor, I agree with mounting the pmd/fsd outside the hood also. The front bumper seems to be the prime location, bottom lip behind plate holder. Gets plenty of fresh air and also protected somewhat from road grime. Mine has been there for months, No prob
