Marauderer
Grumpy Old Cur***geon
My darling wife was in a gas staion parking lot and backed up to let someone by. She didn't see the short bollard behind her and it wacked the bumper.
Ouch!!! I always wondered why so many pickups had damaged rear bumpers. Heck, they are made out of paper thin metal and are all show and no go!!
I started looking for aftermarket bumpers and boy, are they proud of them. I finally decided on the Fab Four bumper.
My bed had some other issues on the passenger side and decided it was best to just suck it up and do it at my friends shop. He proved to be a wizard at taking out the bent quarter panel and the bed rail.
As you can see in the above frame we are masking off to install a spray in bed liner. Prep was a real B%t$h but imperative if you don't want the bed liner to blister up and start peeling. After thoroughly sanding the liner we sprayed it with epoxy primer and let that kick for 12 hrs. Then we sprayed in the liner and I will wait a week before putting anything in it.
Everything was done outside in the Summer Hotlanta weather. The right side of the bed is now straighter than the left as the bed comes from the factory with pressure dings in it.
I am totally satisfied with the job and the only shortcoming was that the Fab Four bolt package didn't have the corrfect size bolts. I will call them Monday morning and see what they have to say. they were all grade 8 but 1/2" bolts were sent where 5/8" should have been used. Fortunately my friend had a great selection of grade 8 hardware in the shop and we had the proper size bolts to make to installation proper.
Also the license plate light bracket did not fit the 3/16" plate and after calling FF they said to epoxy them in.
And last, I got a phone call from the wife and she asked why we had those skinny little tires on our truck and that it just didn't look like us. Wow, Green light to get some 285's on it.
