So ever since i bought my 95, i have been wanting to hog out the upper intake and block off the egr. But I just havent felt like taking it apart. Well trying to dig up the PMD harness gave me the excuse i needed to take it off and do the job. Now when I took it apart i noticed that this was indeed not what i expected to find. I was expecting the large tower with the egr passage that can be plugged with a freeze plug. Now you tell me...but it looks like I already have an "F" lower manifold with the stock "S" top. Seems that way to me unless i have something wierd. What do you think?

Did you buy your 95 new or second hand ? It looks like it already have been modded for EGR delete.
Was you EGR valve diconnected or the line plugged ?

You did remove excess of metal in the upper plenum, that's a good idea. Go further, remove the part of tower remaining, put a plate on the holes to block them off, with a bead of high temp RTV, and you get a nice F intake.
Plug your EGR line from solenoid with a screw or a small plastic ball, you can then delete your EGR.

Then, unplug the line coming from the vacuum pump. If no codes, bingo, you're on the way for vacuum pump delete ;)
If your stock serpentine is a 102", use then a 100". If it is a 101", you may use then a 99.5"

I bought the truck secondhand, so im guessing that someone swaped out the S manifold for a F lower. I was always under the impression that you couldnt mix-match intake parts from the two. Thats why i was a bit confused. But then again, ive had to repair alot of "fixes" from the previous owner.

As for the upper plenum, i didnt really think of it but you're right, i can remove the rest of the tower. Ive already made a blocker plate and blocked the line so thats done. As soon as I bought the truck I removed the vac. pump and got Heath's GL4 with EGR delete. So after this mod, it will be deleted, totally. Thanks Matuva

You don't need to remove the rest of the tower, just put a .050" or thicker piece of shim stock under the EGR valve to blank off the ports, then put the EGR back on top of it, as far as mixing and matching, you could not do a S lower with F upper no way to seal off the tower in the lower, but you don't have that issue, but could do other way around. that tower handing out there from upper would not be an issue, actually would not need to shim it, as it would just recirc air back to itself if the EGR valve unseated. At some point you might want to find a F upper to go with that lower, but you'll be fine as is.

Nice and clean in there.

That's because his egr was disconnected all this time. What's nice about the F upper is it has the land where the EGR should go. I bolted mine back on and hooked the vac line back up so it "looked" good. CT emissions is done by state inspectors and it passed no prob. They check for it here.

Yea for 221K I was surprised how clean it was.

As for the CT emissions, ive passed through with no cat, but havent yet had to go with this truck. Seems to be a breeze if you ask me, all of our old crap passes with flying colors

Don't know what part of the state your in, but around here they visually check for everything including EGR and Cat. They punch the VIN# in and it tells the tale of what should be there.

I guess the weak link in the inspections is that its not state run at the dmv anymore. Being there are so many small repair shops that can do emmissions, I think alot of people get away with things that would have normally failed. All you have to do is know someone and get the "dont worry about it" additude. Good for us, but not exactally what the state wants. Plus, what I have seen from experience, alot of these emission stations dont know much about diesels.

Ive yet to have a problem with anything except our old 89 gasser. And that wasnt even because of a missing cat...just it was too rich at idle. So the fix to that was to slap on a set of farm plates, and presto! No more emissions.

Is this what an S intake looks like? Or is this an F that came out of an S mold? According to the 8th unit in my VIN, I have an F motor, but because I have that bump in the intake, did it maybe come from the S mold, maybe? If so...I just probably need to cut the webbing when I clean it out?

That is an "F" top, but some of them still have the webbing. With a casting on the top like that, id guess that yours still has the webbing. Its an easy job to remove it though. Just need a die grinder and some eye glasses!
