Has anyone here had any part of their engines extrude honed? I like the idea for a perfect port match and smooth as glass surface for the air to flow past. I just got a quote back from a place and to have the intake manifolds, heads and exhaust manifolds done would be close to 3000 bucks. I thought it would be much less than that, but I have never had it done so.

any info would be great.

thx

At 2500 rpm and boosted, you would be hard pressed to measure any gain from polishing the ports. You might see something by simply matching the ports so there were no edges to disrupt flow (if there were any edges). But, you're still so slow on these engines that you likely couldn't measure the difference in HP.

Ouch that does sound high. But I've never done any parts. I imagine there is some tooling charge to connect the pumped stuff through components that makes 1 piece lot size of each so expensive.

There were no prices in the article in Max Torque suggesting it but I wasn't thinking it was that expensive to get it done. Might try to buy some already done and see if diesel depot will take your's as cores ????????

I'd think with ATT turbo, good exhaust, and intake it might make a little improvement for the guy trying to squeeze all that he can out of it. But I would think you would have to do the whole package crossover mandrel bent, coated, and wrapped etc so to take advantage of the improvements.

Not something to be done on top of mods list but maybe one of the last things.

I have had other parts quoted previously, and IIRC the rub is having cast iron parts done (and to what degree of finish). From what I remember of the conversation, the cast is something like double the price of the aluminum pieces, just because of the additional time on the honing machine.

Regards,
