Has anyone tried running power via a switch to B terminal (yellow wire) on the glow plug controller to extend glow time using factory set-up. Would using a diode inline before your switch power stop it from setting a code. Someone on here mentioned it, but I don't think anyone has tried it. What's your thoughts. TIA

Welcome to the site

I and many others have used a momentary switch connected to a Ford or similar starter relay. The large terminals on the relay are connected to the glow controller. The momentary switch is connected to the small terminal on the relay. When it is activated the glow plug light comes on. It doesn't set any codes.

Welcome to the DTR!!!

This is the best 6.5TD website on the 'net... with good reason!

First, we would like you to fill out your signature so we know more of the details of your rig... click on the link in my signature; it will take you to where you fill yours out.

Next, I invite you to look throught the 6.5 technical library found at the top of the 6.2 and 6.5 forums:

http://www.dieseltowingresource.com/forumdisplay.php?f=218

It's a continually-evolving record of member knowledge, modifications, acronyms, etc. If you look under 'Glow-plug override', there is a link that shows you HOW to build the relay that Leo describes above... with pictures!

Thanks for the welcome. I migrated from another site that was getting a little bloated. I read and understand the manual glow plug override but want to do something a little different and with less hardware. I have been hovering around here awhile but I usually don't post because I take the time to do some searching. Anyways doesn't look like anyone has tried this method so maybe I'll give it a try and post back with my results. Thanks

What you are proposing should work fine, make sure the diode blocks the circuit from back feeding the PCM feed circuit. I have my extended glow set up like this and it works fine.

I think I would like to do something like that also then if you don't need the extended time you can just let the pcm do it's thing. Please post your results and parts used.
