So yesterday I decide to replace the ISS. No big deal. The hardest part was just getting to the bolts to remove amd replace the shaft.
While I'm under the dash I also replaced the column bearing. As I'm doing this I end up turning the steering wheel. As I see it turning around I'm thinking this will probably end badly. I get everything back together and start the truck. No radio controls and I have a "check air bag" message :mad2:. I call a friend of mine who owns a repair shop and ask him what he thinks. Says it's the clock spring in the column. He said the wheel has to come off to get to it.
This is just great, I do not have a puller and no part stores are open to get this new clock spring. I take it down to his shop this morning and leave it to get fixed.
I have done some research and found a new clock spring will cost $300 plus. Not to mention the labor .
So for those who did not know there is a very expensive piece behind the steering wheel, heads up. Do not let the wheel move when replacing the ISS.
