I am in PA. for christmas and had to plug in my truck for the first time since I've owned it. Well i went out this morning to see how well it worked or if at all, and I popped the hood and felt the V/C and it was warm to the touch so I know it was working. The only thing that has me concerned whether it is normal or not is a noise that I hear. It sounds like a slight hissing like if you open the bleeder on the t-stat housing or a slight whirring sound. My ? is does the heater have a pump to circulate coolant or is it like an immersion heater with no moving parts. Maybe what I heard was steam hissing or something. Has this happened to anybody and is this normal or should I keep an eye on it???? And merry christmas to all and have a safe and happy holiday. Be blessed.

Awesome. Thanks NVW. I had enough trouble just getting here. I drove through the night from SC. 8 hours into the trip I'm in pa. and loving that I can go non-stop on fuel 650 miles. And the low coolant light comes on and I pull over at the toll booth and pop the hood and see the upper hose dangling. Been driving since 11.00 pm and now this at 7.00 am .It has the pinch clamp and I have no pliers. 20 degrees out and I some how find the strength to squeeze the clamp and put it back on and fill it with water from the toll road bathroom. Now having a wonderful time and just want to keep it that way.. Thanks and god bless.

You're welcome and Merry Christmas.

Most block heaters are an immersion style heater placed in one of the center frost plug holes. These hiss.

Circulating heaters are usually in a heater core line, these will make a gurgling sound.

Hope you have better luck on your return trip.

I have had the in line style before and they never worked like the one in my truck. They suck. I had a feeling it was the immersion style, just threw me when I heard the hiss.

It works awesome and I even have heat when I first fire it up in the morn. and it starts better than it does in the summer, that heater makes a world of difference.

I plug mine in for about an hour or so (down to 10df) .. just enough to help it start easily... Full time plug in would get expensive I'd reckon.
