Engine goes to idle in 2nd gear - no compression braking.

1993 again... Engine goes to idle in 2nd gear - no compression braking.
I don't think this is normal because the on the throttle RPM is 2600 RPM accelerating. I have no compression braking in 2nd gear at all.

What would cause this?
 
Anyone who finds this thread: This is caused by the overrun clutch burning up. It is a separate clutch to hold the truck back vs. the power being applied from the engine to move the truck. Transmission rebuild required to fix...

So the transmission operates normally in the over drive selector position: all forward gears and TCC lock fine. It just won't Compression brake 2nd when manually selected.

In my case it was caused by turning on the TCC override while compression braking. OOPS!
