Enabling TPMS

Well, I guess I FAIL!

According to the instructions to enable the TPMS, You're supposed to go to go into Chassis > Tire Pressure Monitor > Special Functions > TPM Option Enable, then press exit to leave the menu and save the settings. Well, mine says NO. The "Commanded Status" changed to "Enable", but when I exit, it doesn't stay. So my guess is that the BCM helps to control the system, and that's what's not allowing it to enable. So is there a way to update the BCM and add the functionality (through TIS or whatever)? Thoughts

Looking at CALID, it has the following:
15120179 - 0000ED6E - New calibration to increase Tire Pressure Monitor initialization time.

Seems like the BCM has the calibrations to support the TPMS, so what the heck?

do you have the sensors in the wheels, and usually the remote control door lock reciever controlls the monitoring. it reports to the bcm.

where did this come from, it wasnt an option on the 04 trucks.

Yes, I have sensors in the wheels. It wasn't an "option" in the 04 trucks, but since all the GMT-800's, including the Escalades and such that DID have it, share the same hardware, all the nessicary equipment is there on all GMT-800's. The "Tire Pressure Monitor System" is under Chassis. Like I posted above, according to CALID, my truck's BCM has the supporting code. IN THEORY, enabling it should be just turning it on with the Tech 2.

well, maybe not turning it on, but doing a reflash. i will have to look into it some. i would love to do it also.

the passenger door module is what contains the tpm data. the instructions for replacing the pdm are as follows. maybe this will help.
Passenger Door Module (PDM) Setup

After PDM/Switch assembly replacement, the following procedures must be performed in the order that they appear for the Tire Pressure Monitor (TPM) system to function properly. The PDM also requires keyless entry transmitter programming after replacement. Refer to Transmitter Programming in Keyless Entry.
TPM System Enable

The service replacement PDM/Switch assembly comes with the TPM system disabled to allow the same part number PDM to be used in both TPM and non TPM equipped vehicles. Once the TPM option is enabled in the PDM, it can not be disabled. Before proceeding with the steps below ensure the vehicle is TPM equipped (UJ6), refer to Service Parts ID Label in General Information.

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. With the scan tool select Chassis.
  4. Select Tire Pressure Monitor.
  5. Select Special Functions.
  6. Select TPM Option Enable.
  7. Press the exit key to escape.
Tire Type/Pressure Selection

Since there are different tire types and pressure combinations for different vehicles, it is necessary to select the correct tire type and tire pressures for the vehicle being serviced.

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. With the scan tool select Chassis.
  4. Select Tire Pressure Monitor.
  5. Select Special Functions.
  6. Select Tire Type/Pressure Selection.
  7. Select P-Metric Standard.
  8. Select the front tire pressure as noted on the vehicle drivers door placard sticker.
  9. Select the rear tire pressure as noted on the vehicle drivers door placard sticker.
  10. Verify the selections made are correct and press the enter key. The scan tool will flash Procedure in Progress, then display Procedure Complete.
  11. Press the exit key to escape.
Tire Pressure Sensor Learn

After PDM/Switch assembly replacement each of the tire pressure sensors unique identification codes must be learned into the PDMs memory. Refer to Tire Pressure Sensor Learn .

I've been through those steps. The thing is everything about the system seems to be there. I set the tire type and size, set the front and rear thresholds, it just won't turn on. It's driving me nuts....

Got it figured out and the TPMS system enabled. Turns out I needed a new PDM. I got one from a guy on DP, and the first thing I noticed was it had "w/TPM" on the label on the bottom. Plugged in the "new" one, went to chassis/TPMS/Special Functions/Enable, it enabled right away and I was able to program all sensors.

good news cougar. would you be so kind as to get me a part number. i am curious if it can be done with just a reflash of the right options through tech line. did you ever try that or just replaced the module?

I would have thought that reprogramming would have done it too... I flashed an Escalade cal to it and no joy. The "new" one was just plug in and enable.

Where is the PDM located on a vehicle? I've been trying to find it in the EPC and I can't. I've had parts elude me before, but this one is a SOB.

Doh...yeah there's some clippy things there that don't release very nicely.

This is a sweet upgrade, I like the sound of it. Are you doing this with a Tech2?

do you know what else the PDM does[maybe the remote start fuction?]

Sorry, yes, I'm using my Tech2 to mess around with the settings as well as enable it.

Dmaxx3500, that's all it does AFAIK. The remote start feature of te GMT900's is part of the BCM & ECM. There's no way to enable that on a GMT800 short of converting all electronics in the truck over to the GMT900 electronics.

yes,but didn't GMT-800 escalades and denalis have remote starts from the factory?,,and don't 09-10' trailblazers and envoys also have it?

I don't think there were any GMT-800 trucks/suvs that had remote start. If there was I'd have found it and installed it by now. :D

what we need to look for is other gm's that have ''class 2 data'',,,, not -7.5-10 CAN,,,impalas-malibu's-buicks-pontiac's,

That Cl. 2 data bus can die in a fricken fire. I WISH I could get ahold of something to track down where everything goes in my truck. Also, I'd LOVE to be able to read/edit my BCM.
