I had some trouble with trailer lights not working.
I Replaced the bumper plug receptable but stupid me installed the brown wire(lights) on the wrong spade(to ground)(didn't know at the time)
As a result it kept popping the 20 amp fuse in the side panel.(park, interior and tail/trailer lights)
I ran out of 20 amp so intelligent me :rolleyes5: used a 30 amp fuse to try to find the obvious short.
Fuse popped again.
I finally found the mistake i made on the plugin
Buuut,..now the parklights stay on when i put a fuse in the fusebox the lightswitch on or off has no effect. Trailer unhooked.
Thinking that maybe the contacts in the lightswitch had froze together i replaced the switch with the spare lightswitch i have but it didn't solve the problem,..parklights stay on at all times unless i pull the fuse.

Question, is there a relay somewere that i don't know off that might be fried? ...or melted together wiring ???

this is on the 98.

You are probably on the right track with something being melted together, just for grins try disconnecting the batteries for a little while.

X2. Do the battery thing first. I remember when our fleet of patrol trucks were of the 88-98 era the parking lights would come on after jump starting the trucks. We jumped them a lot because the radios constantly would draw power and we weren't allowed to have 2 batteries. If they sat 3 days w/o starting they were dead. It was weird, we would jump the truck, run it for awhile until the battery was charged enough, then shut it down and disconnect the battery for a few minutes. Otherwise the parking lights never went out. I always figured it was a glitch caused by the radio install. Maybe shorting out the trailer plug is doing the same thing???

park/tail lights still stay on even with the light switch disconnected.
I'll give the batt disconnect trick a try,..can't see how that will help but....

was the plug for the headlight switch in good shape? possible melting inside it to allow wires to touch. on my 94 it was melted pretty bad

I found the problem in the jumble of wires between the fusebox and the switch. What a miserable place to fart around in,just enough room for a screwdriver,a look and a light but not enough room for all three at the same time
Hot lead to the switch crossed the lead to the park/tail lights coming from the fuse box, things got a little hot there cause of the bigger than OEM fuse and melted the 2 together.
It took the switch out of the equation but not the fuse.

Just so you know,..don't substitute a bigger fuse than what is called for,it may spell T>R<O<U<B>L>E.
Don't ask how i know :hihi:

Had a gum wrapper save me walking 20 miles back to the truck. ATv had a wire rub through the insulation and killed the engine. I popped all the extra fuses trying to figure out why it wouldn't run. Finally noticed the exposed wire and all I. Had left was a gum wrapper in my pocket
