Thinking of doing a EGR delete by installing an F intake on Wife's 98 1500 .I have a 96 ECM out of an F truck, will it swap in or would i need a 98 F ECM.(If so, does any of you has one you're willing to part with???).
The cruise is still operated by vac on this truck.

How is the cruise still vacuum on a drive by wire truck? The 96 ECm should plug in, but chances are you will get a security light as the 96 ECM will not recognize the passlock module.

If it ain't cruise, then what is that hickymicky on the dr side firewall for?, it's got a vac hose to it!

My ERG delete on my 95 was a freeze plug in the EGR hole and then covered by a plate I fabricated and black electrician's tape over the SES light.

That's the vacuum sensor for the EGR. On 94-95 trucks it was used as a barometric pressure or altitude sensor. On 96+ trucks they kept it there for monitoring how much vacuum was going to the EGR valve. All of that will have to be removed to go to an F engine set-up. It seemed when you said vacuum cruise control when GM hasn't used a vacuum cruise control on a full size pickup since 87.

Does that strange thing on your firewall look like this, Simon? :hihi:

I don't get any results with search or stickies...do any TTS site sponsors carry one....GM Part Number...who sells the best aftermarket ones...is it an 'upgrade your membership gift'...not available on Rock Auto except for Delorians...can it be anodized...anyone got a wiring diagram....:hihi:
Sorry Simon, couldn't resist the opportunity to be the first one to ask the inevitable questions.:hello:

As to the ECM question at hand, I was able to locate a 98 ECM for 635's restoration on E-Bay so perhaps that or try Craig's List. If you get a score, then shipping can be worked out through a third party here (I volunteer) to help offset the additive costs applied by malevolent gvt. agencies.

A quick search on E-Bay this a.m. found them between $178 and $2300 (yea, twenty-three hundred. [I can't make this stuff up] I'd post a link but that would really derail your thread).

Yeah go ahead, make fun of me...i'll return the favor some day;)

I don't know how you found them....i could find zero 6.5 98 ECM's(plenty gassers though) on fleebay. :skep:
BTW i was looking for a used one, i thought that was obvious.:rolleyes5:

Never mind,I'll try Bill heat tomorow, i might need a reflash/programming anyway.
I wonder if Kojo is still in business?, i could not find him under the vendors either.

Trust me, I wasn't poking fun at anyone in particular, especially not you. Despite what 635 told Sunshine at Teton park, Buffalo do not like to have their tails twisted...THAT much I do know.
