So a couple weeks back i bought all the things to make a 6.5 reliable and to keep it going. pmd relocation parts, replacement oil cooler lines thanks to leroy. New bosch injectors and glowplugs. and i also bought arp headstuds and oversized gaskets so in the future ill be safe running higher boost.

so since i figure my truck has spent its entire life in michigan that i will be breaking some bolts. ill have the pb blaster on hand. my real question is what is the fastest and easiest way to take off the heads along with installing the relocated pmd nd oil cooler lines? thanks for the help!

I would start with the front of the motor, remove the upper fan shroud and fan, then start unbolting the accessories, and then their brackets.

next I would move onto the intake manifold.

after the intake, i would unbolt the passenger side fender and inner fender and remove them out of the way.

from there, now that you have room i would unbolt the turbo and the passenger side exhaust manifold, and then the drivers side manifold.

drain the coolant, and remove the thermostat housing

injector lines next (plug the injectors and injection pump to keep dirt out)

valve covers and then heads.

just keep in mind to check to make sure all the wires are disconnected and unclipped to give you plenty of room the manuever stuff there may be other things in the way that im not thinking of but im pretty sure i got most of it.

also with all the accessories out of the way and no exhaust, the oil cooler lines should be a little easier to do.

with the intake manifold off, you can unplug the factory PMD easily and add your extension harness.

also remember that easy is fast, but fast is not easy

Take hood off is step 1, gives you lots more room to work, before removing accessories & brackets make sure they are properly marked for replacement location and even better a digital pic, comes in very handy when you have more than one set of hands removing things, depending on how cruddy you turbo bolts are fender removal could be optional, we just ran thru this in the sunshine forum on Justins truck http://www.thetruckstop.us/forum/showthread.php?t=13743

I'll try just looking it up from search:thumbsup:.

Any hoo... Thanks 540S10 and Tim for the quick advice on the heads. I was thinking of doing the gaskets too since I'll be in there changing out intake manifold (F-S swap), fixing a leaking valve cover and swaping out the glows and injectors.

Fixed it for you guys...

I would pull the engine out of the truck. You need to see and work.Getting the block head surface clean of all the gasket material is way better on a stand. Worth every second to not have to do it a second time.Besides getting the head back on using the studs is impossible with the studs installed.

well i think im going to wait on removing the heads till next summer. its starting to get cold and i need my truck in the winter. i can do injectors, glowplugs, pmd,and oil cooler lines in a weekend but not cylinder heads. thanks guys for the info.
