First one they ever made - not too awful bad except for the overheating problem that made the computer shut down after 5 min. There was a lawsuit and recall for them to check all computers that may have been effected, and I turned mine in twice, but received back both times saying it was fine. (To which I plugged it in, put a cd in, and it shut down in 5 min.) Any ideas on what to do with it? Do I have any options as far as using it...assuming nothing has melted on the inside?

remove CPU fan and use arctic silver thermal compound.

use RMclock or similar to overvolt the CPU fan as much as possible.

have fun with it for a couple of weeks.
as soon as the CPU fan is worn out - that is it.

e-machines is a total no no.

if you can demand money back.
hope you kept original paper work and receipts - return if you can.

any 3 year old thinkpad is better than any low end notebook. for less money.

its been 7 years or more since i bought it new, and although i do have the paperwork, there's no way i can return it. :(
