I am working on gathering everything I need to do a DB2 conversion (from a DS4). I do not have a DB2 core, so I have to bite it and buy one with a core charge. I want to start fresh with some new injectors as well so a kit caught my eye on E-bay.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...60595069460&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:MOTORS:1123

This price seems really low for a rebuilt DB2, Bosch injectors, and all gaskets/hoses. I asked what the core charge was and if it was rebuilt using the updated stanodyne Head rotor. He replied that the core charge is $150, and the price for a pump with an updated rotor head is $75 more.

My main concerns are as follows:

-This guy sems newish to e-bay, has anyone on here dealt with him?
-The prices seem too good to be true for an updated DB2, Bosch injectors and all software needed to replace everything ($770 total and 620 with a core exchange).

Am I just paranoid or am I right in thinking this is too good to be true? I have been burned too many times and I do not want to spend money on junk that was improperly rebuilt. There are no returns with this guy (A waranty is kind of mentioned in the add, but not to sure about its validity).

I am also looking at this add, which for $75 more($520 total) I get a DB2 with a new head rotor installed. Has anyone dealt with this guy before either (I believe I have, think they are the guys at badger Diesel, and my experience with them has been good so far).

Any thoughts or suggestions, or even offers if you have a DB2 4911 for sale are welcome. Thanks

Check with Barry....BK95td on the site here he has lots of IPs and can hook u up with everything else u need plus there is a vendor list of approved vendors that u can look at their stuff. I think nobody trusts the ebay IP guys. U know a messed up IP or injectors turns into the sudden unexpected need for a new engine real fast. U need to fill out ur signature with ur truck info so these guys can help u, also u need to look at the library and use the search engine to find things, u can find the answer or at least get enough info that way to understand what these mechanics on here are talking about.

hector with injectors...:rof:
I think that says it all....He ain't new...He keeps changing his name over on eBay and I would wonder why...
A 4911 is a tough pump to find used...I paid 150$ for one in unknown condition. You could get a 2829 for way cheaper , turn it up and probably not know the difference but I'm anal and wanted the bigger one.

If it's badger diesel there shouldn't be a problem. Several members here have bought their IP's. Anybody else on ebay I wouldn't trust for that kind of money.I believe Badger charges around $450 to rebuild a 4911 ip.Another $150 or so if the head has to be updated. Not shure of core charge.
I won't part with any of my 4911[92-93 6.5 td] ip's because I have too many trucks they fit.

I did buy from Hector a set of injectors nozzles when he first hit ebay a few years ago. I think I was his first customer. Anyway is is suspecious that he has had to start over with a new name on ebay and only has 8 for his feedback. I would call him and ask directly why. Ask exactly what you want to know. He did not speak english well so his wife mostly talks.
My injector nozzles were OK they were the german Bosch ones.

Barry, why are you double posting so much lately? Did Bill send you some medicine?

I don't know what the hell is up with that. I'm only clicking on submit or post once

Hey Thanks everyone for your input, sorry I haven't replied lately, Just been busy with work. I am still going to be looking around and trying to figure out what I am gonna do. BTW, how do you identify Bosch Injectors? Are they stamped on the actual injectors? I have a set somewhere in my shop, but Ido not know if they are bosch or not. If they are I want to get them rebuilt using real bosch parts, not cheapy internals using bosch shells... Are there any unique identifiers on them?

Where is this said vendor list? (Remember I am still a newbie)

The tops of the injectors with the name on them are irrelevant. The nozzles, lower part of the injectors matter. Made in China are good for 30K before they die.

This nice picture to the left I have is looking down the #8 cylinder after the injector failed, melted the piston, and the rod beat 4 holes in the cylinder allowing coolant into the oil. This wiped the bearings and ruined the turbo as an added bonus. I got the Suburban cheap after that failure. The engine with turbo was worth about $75.00 as scrap metal.

Injector parts including pumps off Ebay have a high risk vs. a reputable shop. You will get what you pay for. If you are comfortable with pulling junk our of your engine, IP's and injectors, and pulling the engine worst case then the risk may be worth it to you. Otherwise these items are not the place to be cheap as they can get expensive very quick. And you walk...

looks like a trip to the scrap yard for me. i have 3 of them, junk, taking up room in the shop. even at 50.00 ea, i can get the TCM i need.

Genuine Bosch Nozzles will have "Bosch', Logo and part number laser etched on the side. If any of those 3 things is missing they are forgeries. There was a big batch of fakes pedaled around the country.
As for Ebay policing the scammers, good luck. The times I have had problem they would do absolutly nothing. They will remove the negitive feed back if the scammer lies to them. They will believe the seller long before the customer. No feedback is your only weapon against the crooks .
It's very easy to see how little ebay does to stop the scammers by doing a 6.5 diesel search and seeing all the gadgets that will double the horsepower and mileage. Some sellers such as Option Racing will use several different seller names just in case ebay might shut one down. I found they had at least 6 different seller names.
On the other hand, most of the sellers that I have dealt with are excellent. A few bad apples spoil the whole basket full.

The challenge is it can be Bosch housing but not Bosch nozzle, unless you dismantle it???

This is what I am talking about... The approved vendors on here use geniune Bosch parts for the rebuilds? I would hope they do, I mean, I am not going to take them apart just to verify this. I need to absolutely trust people on this, and this is where I am getting worried. All of the horror stories I see about pistons getting burned and all. I am willing to pay the cash for good quality, but I need 100% assurance that I am getting what I am really paying for. It seems to me the 6.5 is a mecca for scammers who can sell junk to anyone. I do not want to be that anyone.

"Trust but verify." If you are going to take the word of people you trust, but not verify what you have purchased from a seller with a previously good reputation, you are going to get burned eventually. Even if the seller makes it right, you've lost time, effort and some money.

I trusted, didn't verify and got burned only it wasn't a piston, just the $240, thankfully, for "... remanufactured injectors are second to none. In fact, analysis on a sophisticated injecto-matic machine has repeatedly shown that our remanufactured injectors perform better than many new injectors."

Others had recommended the source (not a site vendor and an E-Breyer with a good seller history) because of the price. Pulling the injectors apart 5k miles later after discussing the "good deal" price with Bill, we pulled a couple of mine apart and a couple of the rebuilds supplied to him. The discussion was about how much it cost for genuine parts, what a reputable shop / business will pay it's employees to do the work, how long it takes and where the price point for genuine rebuilds should be as compared to the price points being offered. Well the inspection revealed just how they managed to buy these units to resell as "Our Re-manufactured" units at that low of a price point...nozzles and one could safely surmise; labor. I purchased a set of known good rebuilt units from Bill and put them in while still in his parking lot that evening. And I never purchased another thing from that other seller.

So, the price of the known good units plus $240 for rebuilt junk plus $450 of the SSD Marine units I had stupidly purchased 25k miles earlier, boy, I sure saved money not purchasing an expensive set of new units from a known good seller!

Repeat, "Trust but Verify."

Yep. Injectors have a engineering spec that they are made to. Parts interchange between brands that have that spec number.[097 for a 6.5] The problems come in when the material and workmanship aren't to that engineering spec.

So how am I to verify? I don't want to pull a brand new rebuilt injector apart? How do you verify? The reason I ask is, I have newer (Less than 10K miles) injectors currently. Two of them are leaking fuel at a rate of about a drop every 15 seconds. I don't want to take them out and just tighten them until they stop leaking do I ? This is why I am concerned about getting the right injectors. If they leak out of the housing, who is to say they are actually performing properly and getting the fuel atomized thouroughly? I got the current ones I have from pensicola diesel on E-bay. about 1.5 years ago. I will never get injectors from them again.

So I guess to sum it up, How do I verify that they are the correct parts installed and assembled correctly without tearing them apart myself?

On a second note, I wouldn't have the slightest clue what to look for even if I was to tear them apart and look at them.

I am not trying to mock anyone's post or come-off sounding angry, I am just very concerned with getting the right parts and quality rebuilds, and I am getting frustrated with people who are not honest with me about the parts they use and their ability to do things correctly the first time.

Thanks

The fake Bosch set I got had one unit leaking at the body. I purchased another injector cause tightening the sucker down didn't solve the problem. At $65 for one unit, that would have been $520 plus tax for a set of eight known good Bosch units vs. $240. You get what you pay for.
