Duraterm Glow Plugs

I was having hard starting issues with my truck that would come and go. It was mostly noticeable during a *warm* start and not during hot or cold starts.

I had tried 60G plugs in hopes of installing a durable plug that could be overriden continuosly with no ill effects. I found this to be an awkward arrangement with command start because of the need to override while sitting in the cab.

A fix for this was cutting the yellow wire on the ECT switch and fooling the computer into cooler temps during all starts. This got to be a pain as cold starting was excellent but the timing and fuel delivery change that came with the fooled computer led to difficult starts when hot even if the switch was thrown.

Out of desperation to fix the problem I thew in a set of Duraterm plugs. These plugs heat faster than the 60 Gs when exposed to the same glow time, but are much stronger than the old WAP plugs that would burn out on me in less than a few months.

The truck now starts on the first or second revolution and I don't have the embarrasing long crank time anymore.

These can be picked up by Canadians at Canadian Tire for about $20 a plug.

I am sure that vendors within the U.S. have them for even cheaper.

Duraterm are available from Heath, for most folks ac-60 G will be fine, those in very cold climates, or dropping to 18:1 CR may need to go to Duraterm, I've not compared Delphi glows to ac-60 or DTs but when tested against Kennedy quick heats, the Delphis were slightly faster to heat up, and more tip area was heated in same amount of time.

I did a lot of testing with the Duraterms against the 60G plugs, what I found was the 60G plugs got about 200 degrees hotter but couldn't last as longer under the high load conditions we put them under. When I ran the Duraterms I left them on the battery for 6 hours and they maintained a constant 1250 degree's. This would not be possible with most other plugs because Duraterms have internally regulated coils that maintain the correct temp so they don't spike and burn out. This is another reason we only carry the Duraterms.

I thought the 60G's were self regulatin' as well? If the duraterms lasted 6 hours, how long did the 60G's last?

rock auto is selling duratherms for 9 bucks a piece. bought me some the other day. would also like to know how long the 60gs lasted too.

Boy this is a old thread brought back to life.......When I first read it I thought, "Didn't Chris just get a D-Max?"

Somebody send me a set.

I just installed the DuraTherms and they work wonderfully. Much quicker starting than old dead originals!

True test 30 days away, ski season baby!

Very timely thread!!! My POS quick heats from SS Diesel are dropping like flies in the 96 Sierra.

The old old G60s in the Suburban still work like a champ.

I think Aces posted a current discount code last week as well for Rock..?
