Hey all. I went on a little road trip today and while pulling a pretty good hill, my ses popped code 78. It is "turbo wastegate solenoid fault". While I was completing my trip home, my truck felt like it lacked power. I popped this code once before about a year ago while accelerating down an onramp. Any idea what the problem is? Thanks.

Steve

Yes

1. your vac pump crapped out

2. your waste gate sol crapped out

3. Your vac lines " "

4. Your waste gate canister crapped out

5. You have an exh leak

6. wgsol electrical problem

It should be one of those

What he says :agreed:

If none of those, call an exorcist

Tru Dat!!

I just got back from a drive after clearing the codes and my truck was back to normal, but I will check on those things in the morning when it gets light out. Sucks not having a shop.

Buddy- The vac system is all stock. I normally get no obvious black smoke.

Steve

I would suspect that you have a cracked vacuum line. I had one before that would still boost, but not the right amount and I would lose it fast, because the crack would leak more and more on long acceleration.

To set the code, boost must be over 2psi out of the PCM's curve for 10 straight seconds. Its common not to code, since it expects no boost at idle or low load, so accelerate for about 8 seconds then cruise when boost curve is real low and it is never off the curve long enough.

That makes sense seeing as how the only time I throw this code I am moshing the gas to merge or pulling a long hill.
