I tried the search function on this question, but didn't come up with anything.

I notice a green rectangular metal tag bolted to the top/front of my DS4 pump, kinda next to the fuel return line. As far as I can see, it doesn't have anything written or stamped on the tag, it's just hanging there as some sort of ID type of tag. It's a thin metal tag that is easily bendable....

Does this tag ring a bell for anyone? Does that signify that it is a rebuilt or replacement pump? Was it there from the factory on these? I was thinking that maybe it shows the pump was replaced under the extended DS4 warranty GM did a few years ago.... not sure about that at all, just a guess. I haven't seen, or better yet noticed, a tag like this on other DS4's so I am kinda at a loss. My pump "looks" well used.... so at the least I am betting it's been there a while. Any idea's on the reason for the tag?

IIRC there were black, green and blue tagged pumps. The blue was the latest. I think it was a factory update designation.

Do a search back at the place, Diesel Pro had a post on it.

Great idea, I hope I don't get in trouble for quoting this.... I figured it would add to our knowledge on this issue. Here is what I found from 3 different posters.

"Stanadyne Inj Pumps had black labels for many years - infant-mortality problems with the newly-released DS4 EFI IP resulted in several running production changes, field-modifiable - to indicate the upgrades, a green aluminum tag (like the old pop-a-top pull-tabs on beer cans and coke cans) was issued, to be attached to one of the cover-mounting screws on the top of the IP - to differentiate new factory versions from the field- and factory-upgraded versions, a new blue label was issued - some blue-labels left the production line with the green tags, to indicate official factory upgrades, vs the official green-tagged field upgrades to pre-owned black label IP's - later, the green tags were discontinued, and blue labels were shipped to the field shops to indicate upgraded IP's, with a 'special' prefix - later, or maybe all along, red labels were issued to indicate rebuilt\refurbished."

"Green label nameplates are new Stanadyne factory pumps. I'd pass on a blue nameplate as that is an old pump."

"I've been told a green tag means a reman circa 1997 or later."

Here is the Stanadyne service bulletin:
