OK I got a smoking good deal on the latest Stanadyne IP, manufacture date on IP id June 7,2011 (six months old) Problem is it came without the PMD which I am thinking, no problem I have a Heath remote mounted kit. WRONG the connector on the DS4 5521 S pump which comes with the latest Stanadyne Grey PMD is keyed different than all the previous generations of IPs. Do I have to get the grey PMD or can the harness be adapted to plug in. Are the PMDs physically the same inside?

I don't know much about the connectors. I would assume someone makes an adapter.

How did you find such a deal on the IP? I am still hunting for a deal I am confortable with; particularly since I am not sold on mine being the issue.

I found it on ebay and as luck would have it, only 35 mile from where I live. So I picked it up and didn't pay any shipping, tax or brokerage fees.

I've read you can modify the connectors to make them work. Leroy probably has an adapter or can make you one

Good for you mudbath,

You can just file the outside tabs off the connector on the IP to fit the old style PMD,It'l fit only one way anyway and it won't compromize the weatherpack seal

Problem may come from the different kind of metal used.

The grey PMD connectors are gold plated, regulard black PMDs connectors are not.

The connector for grey PMD will fit in the old ones, as long as you trim the notch on the male plug, and that will work. Just don't rotate 180° the plug...

Could not have found a better deal and being that close...maybe my luck has changed. So the connector is the only difference between the two PMDs. The internals are the same?

So is the connector on the new IP gold plated too? If so maybe the two different metals - gold on IP connector and NOT gold on the old PMD might fight. I guess worse case scenario is I could get a new style harness and splice it with my old style PMD harness.

I was always under the impression that Gold was inert, it shouldn't react.

It is

it might, but I have several trucks running a grey PMD on stock extensions not gold plated, till several months now, and they show no problem for the moment...

Looking at the IP in the day time presents a very easy solution which doesn't matter if it is a New Style IP with Old Style PMD or Old Style IP with New Style PMD. The harness on the top of the pump just needs to be swapped from one pump to other. There are two little 1/4 nuts on the fuel solenoid and that is it.

Wow getting way too far out in the weeds there. Concerned with the connectors other than the battery. Usually those are the only ones that corrode due to being exposed just like anything else to the environment will crust over. It's in a weather proof connector right? If your that concerned throw some dielectric grease on it... Problems always tend to arise when people over think things lol
