I am wanting to use as much amsoil as possible in my 2006 Duramax 4x4.

Front and Rear diff (rear posi)

Tcase

Tranny

Is it a good idea to use in these components?

Thanks for any info!

For your trans if it is stock, you want to run the AMSOIL torque drive fluid(TES-295 type). If it is built then you need to consider some different alternatives like the AMSOIL DEX/MERC ALLISON C-4 type fluid.
For the transfer case I like the SYNCHROMESH fluid. It is close in viscosity to ATF when cold, but has a MUCH better boil off point to reduce fluid loss.
For the diff's, I would run a good 75W90 synthetic oil for normal driving and moderate towing. If you tow HEAVY often, then I would step up to a 75W140 in the rear.
For the engine go with a good 5W40 oil and call it good. It holds up well in the summer heat towing, plus it makes cold starts MUCH easier.

I'm running Rottella T6 5w40 currently in the engine

Tranny will be stock besides the Trango Jr Valve body mods

Frequent Heavy towing expected. +24K gross, taking CDL 2mro and getting DOT #.

So amsoil in the Tcase and Diffs isnt really recomended or are you saying get those oil specs in Amsoil?

AMsoil is fine, just look for those kinds of oil from AMSOIL. I currently run AMSOIL SYNCROMESH in my transfer case now.

I am running Amsoil 75W90 Severe Gear front and rear (4 qts rear, 2 qts front) purchased from one of our vendors. In the TC I have the 3 qt 5W30 Mobil1 fill that was recommended in the thread started years ago by MikeL at DP based on an article from a trans rebuilder trade publication. I don't know if it was exactly the right thing to do but I've changed it at 60k intervals and have (knock on wood) no pump rub at 185k.
I need to get the Dex VI out of my trans and fill with either Transynd or the Amsoil equiv.
You would also do well to change the Allison spin-on at about 15-20k intervals.

Mine has 40K on the last recorded (by PO) tranny spin on filter change. He said he never had the fluid flushed and it is still redish and not badly burnt. I am doing a transgo kit and it would be the appropriate time for a flush and full fluid R&R with 165K on the truck and fixing to start working it harder than it has in its life.

I'm on the fence on the diff oil being amsoil. I have heard on more than one occasion that it causes the rear diff to not slip under normal turning and I plan to have a load on. That sounds like possibly breaking things to me.

Your trans spin on is beyond past due. I do mine evry 10K when I do the oil change. It's a $9 filter and takes lesss than a cup full of fluid to change it out. ALL of the fluid that goes through the valve body for applying teh clutches and such goes through that spin on filter. As for synthetics causing the rear diff to not release, I find that hard to believe. Maybe in a FORD or something with clutch pack type diffs, but not for a G80 gov lock or even the new style torsen diff.

I think I will risk it and try the Amsoil and report back to everyone on its effect on the G80. I was impressed with the products I was able to use in my 95 chevy and will give them a chance to prove themselves again.

As for the Spin on filter, the PO said it was all changed before I bought it but that was not in the records. Not a deal breaker imo, we have a farm truck 8.1L 5speed allison with 280K on it and I dont think the tranny has had more than a top off since it had 200K on it.

Rotella T6 is factory recommended in the newer Audi DI turbo engines. So you know it's good stuff.

I've used Rotella conventional oil in all my engines. Including my 97 Civic and it's 1.6L 4-cyl. It sounded a lot better at high RPM's than with any other oil and it actually started to clean up my heads (I would bi-monthly pull the VC and adjust the valves). So those detergents for soot build up can help any engine.

I have noticed over the last 60k or so since I changed to Amsoil SG 75W90 that the G80 CAN sometimes be a bit reluctant to unlock. I did not notice that with the Mobil1 75W90 before that or the grape juice before that. I certainly never thought the Amsoil had anything to do with it but it is something that happens. It's not bad but is noticeable occasionally. Where did you hear about that Tanner?

sorry to threadjack guys, but would severe gear 75w140 be a good choice for a 03 dodge 3500 cummins 6spd 4wd? it tows heavy like tanman, and runs a 11.5" AAM like tanman, so I figure it wouldnt be too off topic.

a Mag-hytec diff cover has been ordered as well, if that makes a difference on opinion.

the same oil needs to be used in the diff of a 98 dodge 3500 cummins 5spd as well. it is a dana 80.

Bill CtChevy427 experienced similar problems with Amsoil in the Rearend

My diffs and tcase are now. I just haven't had time to do the transgo so I haven't touched the trans yet. The engine has 8kthe on rottella t6 so amsoil will be next there.
