Anyone know if the driver side door latch is interchangeable on a gmt400 for power and non power locks?

Mine is pooched and I can only find one from a truck with manual locks.

The yard seems to think they're different, but I don't know either way...

Mine was shot on the drivers side to the point it would not open when I bought it and it is a power lock and the one the junkyard gave me was from a regular truck. U r lucky the junkyard told me the drivers door is very hard to find parts cause they wear out since they r used all the time but the passenger side is easy to find. They did have to switch one of the little linkage rods in there tho, that could be the difference. That said ur truck is a lot newer than mine so I am only guessing. How r ur hinge pins, my latch was beat up cause the pins were worn into the hinge, they replaced the pin and welded it to fix the hinge.

Called a local dealer.

Oddly enough, he had a new latch mechanism sitting on the shelf.

I figured I'd just cut through the bs and buy it new since the truck is probably going to be around for the next ten years or so.

Just gotta find the money to pay for it now.

Checking couch cushions as we speak....

GW, I'm looking for a latch. What did you pay for yours?
I bought a new GM one for my 96 a couple years ago and it was $100ish.

Well crap! seems like I always miss the good deals, not today!. Right after I posted above I looked on ebay and found one for $35. Brand new GM part!!!
Looks like this squirle got a nut today.

35 bucks before taxes at the local dealer....around 42 bucks all in.

Parts guy said prices on them dropped sharply in the last year. They used to be close to 100 bucks.

Hope you didn't pay much for shipping...

$5 for shipping.

I'll have to call my parts guy if they are $35 I'll get the pass side too.

For future reference, there shouldn't be any difference between the two. The lock rods are all in the same locations power or manual.

When you get into GMT800 that changes, as the lock actuator is built into the latch itself.

Got the door latch swaped out. What a difference! It was driving me insane listening to the door rattle. It seems to be a bad disign, there is a plastic insert that seems to have to take the shock from the striker. This plastic falls of and the door rattles. Maybe a machined brass replacement would be better?? Do you guys think they would sell?

Are you talking about the part mounted on the door our the frame of the truck?

My door rattles pretty bad on large bumps. You are correct it is very annoying. :mad2:

The latch in the door.

I got to thinking about it and since apparently the latch is only $35-40 new I could'int sell a brass insert because it would cost atleast that much. Now if the latch was still over $100 people might consider it.

Is this a dealer only item?

I looked at my local auto parts store and they do not carry it.

To replace this I am gonna have to yank my door panel back off again? If so that sux, I hate pulling that darn thing off.
