i'm planning to make a trip from northern Utah down to Texas in late august/early sept time frame with my k30. has a flatbed with a goosneck hitch and considering offering to pull a trailer or transport some cargo for others to help offset the cost of fuel.

question, is there any kind of paperwork or fees that i'll need to take care of in order to do this? this will not be a regular thing, just making a trip to visit friends/family and willing to use my truck as a service. truck will be registered in Texas (no fee for 1 ton trucks)

If you do that trip legally then there are lots of paperwork and more of a hassle than you can imagine. You might want to reconsider that unless you plan on making a bunch of money. If you haul that stuff for compensation, then you are considered to be in commerce. That puts you into the same catagory as the big trucks as far as DOT Federal Regulations, DOT Numbers, Log Books, Medical Cards, ETC. and all that good stuff. If you need more info go to the FMCSA website and you can see all the fed. regs.

Yea it is just one trip, but it is like a cat and mouse game. You can take your chances and maybe you will not get pulled, but there is always that chance. I don't know how tough the DOT is in your area. They might have pity on a first timer and cut you a break, then again there is a saying-ignorance is no excuse for the law.

good info, thats what i'm looking for.

i posted a thread in the 'need something hauled' section, if i get anything then looks like i'll have some paperwork to fill out.
