Does the crank pulley go on a certain way?

Are these things balanced to be neutral so you can put it on any old way? ...or does it only go on a certain way?

I hope they're neutral, since I didn't have enough sense to take mine to the machine shop when they balanced my reciprocating assembly. :mad2:

I have a new Fluidampr, but I'm gonna put the old crank pulley back on, since mine looks good and they're easy to change, and I don't have $200 lying around right now. Yes, they used the OEM balancer to balance with.

FYI for those considering a FD before you put the FD on if you are doing rebuild, the engine needs to be balanced with an OEM damper on it, if you are replacing OEM with FD it does not need to be rebalanced, just heads up you can't balance a 6.5 with a FD crank has to be balanced with OEM 1st.

Thanks Tim, the FD is in my plains for 2009

It's keyed to the shaft, it only goes on one way. Leo

The balancer is keyed to the shaft, but there's no shaft for the crank pulley to key to. ...unless I just can't see it. The crank pulley just bolts to the dampener with 4 bolts, but I don't see any keying marks. The Fluidampr replaces the dampener (top photo). I need to bolt the crank pulley to it, but it doesn't seem to be keyed. It has those holes drilled in it, but no obvious key. ???

Harmonic balancer -- the serp belt doesn't ride here:

You're right, I was thinking balancer. The pulley can go on any way. Leo

What he said. :iagree: Apparently some Fluidamprs come apart so you can balance the reciprocating assembly with the non-fluid part of it, but the one for our 6.5 is all one piece, so you can't use it to balance the reciprocating assembly.

I'll second it doesn't matter orientation.

For the rubber center mounted main pulley I am pretty sure it can "clock" in any "time". When I put my replacement one on a long time ago I did not see any real way it was suppose to be oriented. And I just put it on. I could have gotten lucky but I am not usually lucky so I am pretty sure it doesn't matter orientation.

Now that my service manual is back, I looked it up, and it says nothing about clocking the crank pulley or marking it when you remove it.

Whew! I was worried about that expensive balance job I had done.
