Difference between a gas and diesel 4l80e

I'm under the impression that the only difference is the torque converter ie stall speed anything else I need to know. Found a brand new 4l80e on craigslist that was bought from a dealer and is still in the crate $900.
 
I think there the same, just 2x4 and 4x4 versions and updates over the years. IIRC the 454 ran the same converter, which makes sense because they both build peak torque around the same rpm.

I'd buy it, thats a good deal.
 
Thats about it.
Even the converter may be the same as the one used on the 7.4L 8.0L (454 & 502)

There have been a bunch of updates including the revision of the connector plug on the side (electrical) and the oil cooler line locations.

Early ones were like a 400 and later ones had the return line at the rear.
