Diesel Camino?

Yep. 5.7 olds or 4.3 olds. cutlass ,malibu, monte carlo ect were available with them. I saw a el camino in south dakota, a while back, for sale.

tons of gasser camino hotrods but a 6.5 would be a head turner. Light car it would be alot like rafedials camaro

I'm having thoughts of putting a 6.2 turbo in my 87 monte carlo SS. Just wondering how the 200r4 would like it. Pretty high shift points and somewhat loose converter, at least for a diesel. The factory 305 makes it move ok. It's not much over ,if, 150 hp. 200 hp diesel would light the tires up. The 3.70 gears would be a bit low. It runs about 2500 rpm in od @ 60mph.

It doesn't get any better than the 6.5 diesel!

x2! I think it would be a nice mate!

As much as we all like to think this, deep down we all know there's better choices for a performance built diesel project.

I like my ol' truck, but I wouldn't be swapping a 6.5 into much of anything besides the truck that it's in...

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ but:thumbsup:

Yup, no doubt!

But hey........"project"..........

I like the 6.5, you just dont know what its capable of yet. I'd love to put one in a late 80s IROC-Z28, would give any Chevy 350 a run for its money, and get twice the fuel mileage.

Still think I would go for something more modern with better support.

Like I mentioned, the 6.5 seems to be an OK powerplant, given it's shortcomings. My 405 000 km engine is still ticking along. It's just not something I would use for a performance build up in a project.

DMAX Is of course hands down a huge powerhouse. Well out of 6.5's league.

But its the cost. You could have 5 6.5's with trucks attached for the cost of 1 DMAX. Plus the cost to fix, and the electronic nightmares are huge.

Most importantly, we're in the 6.5 forum!

We Poor Boyz here! :)

I used to be happy with my 6.5's cuz I was frugal. Now I'm just dirt poor & getting poorer.
I'm still sad about selling the old 89 and wishing I had just found another engine to flop in it.
After 800,000 miles you get kind of attached.

I like the 6.5's right now cuz they're cheap, not so bad to work on and fairly dependable

No argument there!

One thing the 6.5 has going for it is diesel parts are dirt cheap compared to the competition...

I am thinking 6.2 for my monte because I have at least a dozen of them on stands in my shed
