Anyone notice inconsistancies with the DIC, especially when it comes to fuel readings? i.e I had filled up on my last tank and I reset gal used and mpg economy everytime I fill up. My fuel light came on and I had used 18.4 gal and I put 19 gal's in and it was full. WTF...I thought these HD's had 26 gal tanks? I'm learning not to trust these readings even tho I calc my mpg with each fill-up.

Your 285s have a 7% correction (roughly) factor so your DIC will not work properly for mileage, gal used, or range miles. My gal used usually reads more than I can fit in the tank though. I have, a time or 2, put 25 gallons in. Too close for comfort!
Your low fuel light shouldn't come on until you need about 22+ gal. Are you sure you went right to the top with your fillup?
Your hypertech might have it confused also.

yeah, I fill it @ every fill-up. I didn't think the tires threw it off since the Hypertech is dead-on mph (+/-1 mph) with input of tire size, but it would make sense otherwise. I guess that's why my mpg fluctuates :noidea:

The DIC readings are pretty much just an estimation. Mine is pretty consistantly off by about 2 mpg on the average fuel economy, between what is displayed and what you can calculate by hand. My mom's Impala is the same way. I've called GM TAC about it before and they told me it was normal for them to be like that, its due to the fluctuations with the fuel level sensor readings, projected fuel economy, and driving conditions. The low fuel light will usually come on when your projected fuel range is somewhere around 30-40 miles. you may still have as much as 5-6 gallons in the tank but the truck is taking into account what its seeing your average fuel econmy reading. There is no real set point as to when the low fuel light will come on as far as how much fuel is left in the tank.

That explains a lot Noah. I do know on just about every fill up I'll put in around 19~21 gallons..

hmmm

I usually put 21-24 in mine. I have put 27 in it before.

My DIC reads 31mpg and I am getting about 15 running this 500hp tune.
