This kind of goes along with Matts Water Wetter thread and may work for him also did not want to hijack though.

Considering fitting a Deep trans pan with my next trans fluid/filter change, anyone care to offer thoughts and experiences on Derale pans? Looks like it has potential to me.

Cheers

My thoughts on these pans... I think they're a great idea, as long as you don't go off-roading a lot as I could see the tubes getting plugged up. Other than that, I would get one myself, but personally I prefer Cast aluminum, fabricated, or billet aluminum parts.

Paul me old China,
So you made me do it. Just crawled under the old gal in the dirt and mud. The derale pan is 4" deep stock is 3" deep. Well the only issue that I can find is the cross member at the rear of the trans but it looks like it would still fit. It sort of depends on how far the pan steps in from the flange and how far the tubes stick out but first impressions it should very well fit. Perhaps I'll email Derale and see if they have any input on this.

Cheers

Nobby my Old Son the fing is, its a bit of a job to get the 2 bolts in & out by the X member with the stock tranny pan so if you got those tubes sticking out, who knows..And I ant got fat fingers..But see what they say..:smile5:

Dirt & mud..my ass,, where`s the Snow..:D

Well there was snow until we had this mini above freezing heatwave!:smile5:

Funny to watch Blighty come to a grinding halt with a bit of snow. Reminds me of the good ole days of slaloming around abandoned cars back home!

Yep that was the thought that crossed my mind when looking those bloody rear bolts sure would be a chore if possible when changing the filter. Hmm how about do it once and install an external filter. Derale should make a pan that has the rear angle like stock for these apps, oh well.

Just looked at the Mag-Hytec thats going to be a bloomin PIA to get to the rear bolts as well, although no skin cutting tubes sticking out!

Tim, is yours #9437 (Late and Hummer PAN), I'm guessing it is that mirrors stock with the angled rear taking care of the cross member issues etc? Pricing better than Mag tec also.

cheers

Nice link Doc.

I like the MagHytec myself. They have a drain plug and a spot for a trans temp sender. The thing I like the best is the O ring seal. No more gaskets to scrape off to put the pan back on.

I have a pml trans. pan on my 95 k2500ld. I have to remove the crossmember to change filters. It is a very stout pan. The flanges are 1/2in thick. No other mfg. states the thickness of the flanges. It definitly strengthens the trans. case. They told me that the one I bought was for my application. I bent the flange on the original changing the fluid.

I have a B&M on mine and I love it. It takes exactly 8 quarts to fill and reuses the stock gasket. I did have to lift the tranny an inch to get those back few bolts you guys are talking about above the cross member.

Hello Preachermic
Thanks for the confirmation of fit on a K truck for the Derale.
How do you like it are you observing a marked improvement in trans temps, I sure am attracted to the concept?

Cheers
Nobby

I pull a 10k fiver and have not seen temps above 190 or so on a long hard pull. Normally run in the 170's. As far as the tubes go for getting dirty I spray mine with degrreaser once or twice a year and then hit it with the pressure washer or go to the car wash and they are as clean now as when I installed it about 3 years ago.

I did have to unbolt the cross member and wiggle things a bit but the whole job took about maybe 2 hrs. Don't really remember now. I know it took at least as long to get all the trans fluid off of me as it did to do the install. Plus now I have a drain plug!
