Anyone know or ever have a dealer reflash their 6.5TD PCM or PCM EPROM? I asked the service center and they said they could, but I'm doubting that.

I wouldnt pay them to do it, but I'm just wondering if they have this capability.

Thanks

If you wouldn't pay them it really doesn't matter if they have the capability
or not - but yes, at least on a 1997, they can

yep, the dealer can certainly reflash your puter to the most recent gm programming. if you want aftermarket reprogramming as in more power you won't get that from a dealer. i'd bet i could take my truck in to the dealer and get my heaths hp4 reflashed back to stock. BUT WHY. Ed

I was just reading a summit racing catalog. they sell a product from JET that will reflash up to 4 different vechicles. It will also put back to stock. Not shure if it works on diesels though.

What would the dealer reflash do? Adjust shift points? fuel delivery rates?

Tookie, did you see any difference? If so, what was it?

Todd

Thanks for the info, I'm happy with my Engh Motors chip, so I dont need a stock reflash, but there is someone else at where I work with an older program in his and I noticed it was on a GM service bulletin that it could cause hard or delayed shifts when cold, and he doesnt want an aftermarket program. Luckily here it only gets down to 30s and only overnight, but he is moving to North Dakota soon.

Dealer reflashes handle recalls and technical service bulletins (TSBs). Go to

http://tis2web.service.gm.com/tis2web

and enter your VIN. You should get a report listing the calibration history of you vehicle. Mine looks like this:

Part Number
Cal.ID# CVN Bulletin # Description
9389265 9389101 N/A - New calibration to address idle surge condition
9356915 9356914 N/A - Supercession - For new glow plug calibrations
9353135 9353126 N/A 877162 Calibration corrects harsh shift, Bulletin Number 877162
9350000 9350001 N/A - Control module calibration

9389265 9389101 N/A - New calibration to address idle surge condition

Mine had that done shortly after I bought it, the dealer claimed it would fix a surge concern that was actually caused by a plugged trans cooler..... go figure.

Very useful site. Mine had the same stuff come up so I printed it out and am going to have to take a trip to the stealer and have them do the reflash. I always did wonder why it shifted so harsh from 1st to second. Always though it just all that diesel torque... :D

FYI - mine is starting to occasionally slam 1st to 2nd again -
I think there is a worn sensor, reporting slightly off info to the PCM,
and over time it builds a false shift profile - trying to find someone
more knowledgable in the logic of these systems

Tookie, you have original IP and injectors and you have a homemade TM, your issue may lie in there somewhere. Also what size tires do you have on? If you put tall tires on the VSS buffer module would have to be adjusted to make your speedo and PCM know your real correct speed.

Had the shift issue 3 years before I did TM and raised tire size,
and since I went to the 265s, my true vehicle speed matches the speedo
(it was showing 3 MPH faster than true speed with 245s)

Thanks

damn yours was 3 mph ahead? That'll just make mine worse considering my speedo is 3mph behind my actual speed. Can the stealer calibrate the speedo for me without putting a gaping whole in my wallet?
