I have a dead short for the gauges fuse.

I just changed the starter out along with the engine wiring harness for the IP and fast idle. Also the alternator and temp sensor.

Nothing works in the cluster with this fuse out. Disconnected temp sensor and alt - still pops fuse.

Just curious what else I should check for hunting down a short like this.

Wondering what on that circuit runs by the starter. Also what wires run elsewhere that a dead short would pop the gauge fuse vs. peg a gauge.

I will be looking for pinched wires...

did you hook that up correct, OBDl powers it,OBDll grounds it,or visa versa

Looks like this circuit also powers the cruise control module and the PO tapped that to run the lift pump. Cut that clusterF wire to the LP and will patch it back to the OPS later.

Still not found the short and wiggle test did not flicker the test light across the blown fuse.

Wire harness part was a direct swap from a 93 GMC to 93 chevy. 2 wires from main harness branching out to IP(2), sensor and solenoid. I removed that connector and no help.

probably the fuel heater

or glow contoller. that circuit goes all over

i dont have my laptop with me but i posted that circuit in a previous thread about blown gauges fuse

GP's actually work with a light on the dash...
I'll check and see what if any other lights are out.

I would love a wiring diagram.

try unplugging your fuel heater like buddy suggested

Wire was busted out of fuel heater. But no help disconnected, still has a dead short.

But I get a door buzzer now just as the fuse instantaneously flashes.

Removed cluster and still has a short. (Test light still bright.)

No SES (Service transmission soon) light on. Only the Glow plug light comes on. No other lights on for bulb check and I forget if this has that check. Illumination lights for night driving work on the cluster.

Truck starts and drives shifting through the gears ok with this fuse out. So computer is working. Heavy throttle disables OD and this problem was before the fuse went out.

So temp sensor unplugged, cruise module unplugged, Alt unplugged, GP controller unplugged, fuel heater unplugged, cluster pulled out, wiggle test on harness under hood gets no change on test light.

We are out of time for today... :mad2:

alldata had a lot more schematics than the manual i had.

the WIF sensor also on that fuse, but sounds like you have a pinched wire somewhere. or bad engine harness. try unplugging the engine harness in center of firewall to determine if short is before or after it. schematic would show which harness it is on but you can unplug them all. and then i assume you are using test light from ign/batt power to the fuse contacts for that fuse. even seeing which side of the fuse contacts causes the light to go on would help.

ses light works off gauges fuse and pcm grounds it internally.

Yeah he has a 93 so I think (I could be wrong) he only has a TCM correct ? 93 Mech IP. Buddy maybe onto something I guess at this point process of elimination. Atleast that will tell you if it's in the engine compt or under dash.

Light across the fuse. Yes, just a TCM and that is a PIA enough...

TCM also controls the SES light that way.

So you tested across the fuse contacts with no fuse in and it lights up with IGN on.

There is an engine harness still so unplug it and see if no more light across the fuse contacts.

I don't think 93 has the c113 connector like 94 &^
Harness just contiues out to IP, tps.....ect You can unplug that connector though. Up close to IP

Harness comes out both the driver side cab by hydro booster and below the coolant tank from the cab.

WIF disconnected and running out of things to unplug. Will tackle this short tomorrow.

What else is on this circuit? Anything in the column by chance? (as that is more or less trashed on this truck.)

Light across fuse with ign on lights up. IGN off light is out.

Started over disconnecting everything.

Must have had my hand on the TPS vs. the IP connector to miss this above. And that was disconnected too...

For some reason the cold advance fast idle switch has a dead short to ground. :suicide:

Good news is the IP main solenoid clicks along with the short light going out so I know the engine will shut off - still.

 Thanks for the advice above as I have found that the fuel filter assy needs to be swapped for the wires hanging out of it.
