Dumb question #1

How do I tell if our 96 Suburban has daytime running lights?

It has the light in the dash and the relay in the proper place but no working running lights.

A friend said he had all the same stuff but no running lights on his 96.

I got new bulbs but couldn't find anyplace to stick them.

Where are these lights?

they are just your stock headlights and I believe a faulty headlight switch can cause them to not work. Like mine right now

97 was the first year gm had daytime running lights. They might have started outfiting the trucks with all of the equipment the year before though

It's the law.

And it increases visibility.

Argue that point all you want, you'll be wrong.

I've been driving down the highway into the sun and seen the headlights of one vehicle in the opposing lane and never even knew there was one driving right beside it until we pretty much drove past each other.

Proof in the puddin'.

They dont come with them anymore around here that I know of. It was a dumb idea. If you can't see a car coming in broad daylight you shouldn't be driving.

From Wiki:
in the U.S. Thousands of complaints regarding glare from DRLs were lodged with the DOT shortly after DRLs were permitted on cars, and there was also concern that headlamp-based DRLs reduce the conspicuity of motorcycles, and that DRLs based on front turn signals introduce ambiguity into the turn signal system

And it's not "The Law" here. It is optional.

So maybe your the one who is wrong.

I do much of my driving in the hours surrounding sun-up and sun-down. There are many idiots that don't have the common sense to turn their lights on so other drivers can see them. The daytime running lights are a great idea in my opinion. Then you are able to see them coming when they are talking on their cell phones, texting, putting on make-up, shaving, reading books and many other really stupid things. The lights that should be banned are the HID lights that blind oncoming drivers. The daytime running lights produce very little glare.
