Was driving to work this am a guy in a truck infront of me was doing 40 in a 55 i stepped on it in 3rd gear to go around him and truck started running really ruff and sounding horrible, didnt rev it really high or any thing was about to shifted into OD when it all went south.

so i pulled over and got out, it sounds bad:mad2:. Had it towed home:mad2: from the way it sounds to me i lost a cylinder or more i think. here is a video im thinking im goning to have to pull the motor again:mad2:

Hard to tell on the video but mechanically it didn't sound all that bad. I would check out your injectors and or maybe the IP has the cold advance stuck

Sounds like a busted balancer to me. The Diesel rattle tells me that the engine runs too smooth to have busted the crank, yet anyways. That consistent thud thud thud sound is what would worry me.

Could also be a busted crank pulley, or perhaps busted flywheel if you've got the dual mass flywheel in there.

Either way stop running it until you find out what it is. Noises like that tend to be very expensive if left to get worse.

Well just got home from work and i had been thinking of some tests to do.

I just fired it up and pulled the CDR tube off and there was NO blow by. so that makes me feel some better at least there isnt a huge hole in a cylinder. i didnt notice alot of smoke out the tail pipe either, but when it fired up it sounded alot like when i first fired it up and had air in the lines so im really thinking that it is a fuel related problem.

next step it to go and fire it up again and start cracking inj lines to see if i can isolate the dead cyl.

has any one ever experinced what happens if an injector tip get blown off?

well i opend 5 of the inj lines. (Driver side 4 and front one on pass side) and there was fuel to them all. as i was closing the one on the pass side i looked down and noticed that the dampner was moving around WAY to much  so unfortunatly it is looking like a busted crank.:mad2:

After i shut it down i felt the dampner and there is no movement in it at all so unless any one knows how to check if the crank is busted with it in the truck it looks like im pulling the motor out this weekend.:(:mad2:

Here is a quick video. didnt want to run it to long after i saw this

They usually take the aluminum timing cover with when the crank breaks. With the belt off, the end will move all over.:???: Kind of teeter on the timing chain. The first thing it does is take the front oil seal out and oil dumps down the front of the oil pan.:mad2::mad2:

no oil leaks at all. that was the very first thing i checked for. also it had good oil pressure while it was running will video was being shot a bit over 40 which is where it always is when starting cold

Yank the serp belt off and then see where your at.

That nasty "Thud sound" is not a good sign.

With the huge amount of wobble in the ballancer, I'm betting that its a busted crank.

If your lucky, and dont run it much more, you may be able to salvage the block..

maybe but they where all new and that dosent explain the dampner being all over the place. heading out to take belt off now will report back in a bit

If you get the thing out and on a stand, flip it over and check the bottom end first.

You may be able to stuff the pistons up in the holes. (use rubber hose on all rod bolts) and then pull the crank out.

If the bottom end is still good, just dump in a set of mains and another crank, pull the rods/pistons back down and button it back up.

This can be a tad tedious but would be better than having to completely tear it down.

I have not done this on a 6.5 but it seems that there may be enough room.

Would save the $$$$$$$$$$ on head gaskets and bolts.

I think Missy's plan is brilliant, if only the crank is gone. Good thinking! Good luck, buddy.
