Go new on the water pump. You do not want a rebuilt pump that may have the balance flow issue. Only the newest thread on pumps do not have the issue. (Although any HO pump will do fine in extreme conditions you may as well get the very best.)
Thermostat?

thermostat is a new ac delco 195 put in this year, so I figured to reuse it. It is working great.

I think I can spring the extra 60 bucks for a new pump. Anyone have opinions on brand of water pump?

I will likely do this late this spring, as I have a few other things going in soon... shocks, walbro, hopefully a chip. Trying to make her the best daily driver I can.

The 2000 year with the better flow balance is extra insurance when it is actually holding heat higher than the T-stat value, meaning the system is actually heating up from being loaded.

If you want to use the DMax fan, you'll actually have to get a clutch made for it, or it can be rigged on there. So it would be cheaper to stick with the 9-blade fan, you might even find used, to put on a new clutch. Otherwise you can get the HD clutch alone or with the DMax fan from Heath or SSD. The HD clutch is most of the cost of those fan kits from them and the fan is similar priced when paird with it. I'm going to add this info to my recommendations

The DMAX fan blade fits the late model fan clutches that used the 4 bolt mount, it was the early style non HO pump fan clutches that used teh 6 bolt fan blade that I believe were the issue.

I got a clutch off of a 97 water pump and it had the 4 bolt pattern for the dmax fan and works perfectly on my stock 95 pump. I personally wouldn't care if I got a reman 2000 model water pump if it had a warrenty. My experience says they all go out whether they are new or reman.

Exactly. I have collected all three fans... Dmax fan is four bolt and same clutch mounting as the 9 blade 20" steel. Some have clearance issues with the shroud when using the 21" fan.

The balance flow issue was solved with the latest part number water pump. This leaves the possibility that an earlier rebuilt thread on pump may have a balance flow issue. They changed the water pump housing to solve the balance flow issue. There is a pic on here in a large thread sort of showing this.

As hard as I ran my engine towing the balance flow issue was not a problem with a HO pump and lower t-stat and Kennedy low turn on clutch. Your mileage may vary.

So are you saying not all 2000 model replacement pumps are the same? I thought that all late 99 and newer trucks had the same high flow spin on pump.

Good to hear it bolts right onto the later clutches. Thanks for that info.

The 97-99 HO pumps were still 4 bolt clutch mount to the pump, but is there some company putting threaded clutch mounts onto the older HO pumps? That would be annoying.

I take it your running you original, single, T Stat housing.....Correct?

JMHO, but I think the D-Max fan is the best choice, (I've run all 3 also) and if your "in there" already, get the 2000+ waterpump NEW, just for piece of mind.....and if the "wallet" allows.:)

My Burb is running Heath's replacement pump with threaded on fan clutch & composite blade I trimmed the shroud with my dremel tool for clearance.

My truck is still running a 4 bolt clutch was running a Kennedy's retuned clutch donated to Slim Shady, it now has a Heath 4 bolt retuned clucth (he no longer carries that setup) with the composite Dmax fan also with modified fan shroud ala dremel tool. When/if that pump or clutch die I'll replace with a spin on pump/clutch, my project engine has a spin on pump/clutch arrangement.

There are several part numbers for thread on water pumps. The Max torque article, now a subscription only rag, had the Heath article where only a specific thread on HO pump part number finally solved the balance flow issue on the 1995 burb. There were some thread on part numbers before that one... Now the Heath recommended part number has been superseded. Note 1995 gassers were known to have this issue and boil over a bank with the temp gauge reading normal - an updated water pump fixed them first via a TSB...

Reason enough to get new, not a rebuilt god knows what revision water pump.
